A real hot and cold fighter who much like Charles Williams took a few years and several losses to get on track.

He was undoubtely a very good fighter, but sometimes it was hard to tell because of his sometimes negative style. Thoughts on Johnny?

I'm impressed by his willingness to fight far bigger men, heavyweights, during his career.

Corrie Sanders, Jimmy Thunder, Henry Akinwande, Adilson Rodrigues 2x,

He went undefeated the last 10 years of his career as well.

    So, thoughts?

A very good H2H cruiserweight, right up there in that regard I would say...hard to style to deal with coupled with a very good chin.

I will always scratch my head at his nickname however...

Prince Charles Williams was entertaining imo.
Nelson had a great physique, but was a typical Ingle fighter ,and bored me rigid.

You summed it up--very negative fighter, strictly defensive minded. Interesting, since he certainly had the height and physique to be a puncher. It's a shame he never tested himself against Gomez or Jirov during his CW reign.

There's a good biography of Nelson available if you're a fan.

Let's just say if you put me in a room to watch Johnny Nelson v James Warring or Carlos De Leon and came back after 30 minutes, you'd find me hanging from the ceiling via an extension cord.

To say he was boring is an under-statement. But he was very effective at what he did albeit he went about it in a very defensive and negative way, he was durable and tough to look good against.

He'd never spark Haye out but he could wear him down. He had Thompson down multiple times with pin point shots that wore The Cat down. Remember, Haye couldn't even knock a 40 year old Thompson down.

As for Nelson, he went the distance with Corrie Sanders before Nelson's peak, so...

a succes story for me. he got out on top with his brains in tact,a few quid and a job with sky. a natural athlete who could be frustratingly negative or really explosive

Ingle Camp..... Two ways.... either Boring or Technically flawed. Nelson had both features in spades!

Around the time he won the british, european & world title to start that unbeaten run he seemed to be turning into a more exciting fighter, then over the course of his world title reign he seemed to gradually revert back to boring people to death again :huh.

The stoppage vs Thompson was bogus btw.

I reckon he certainly beats Haye...Nelson took some decent bombs from Sellers before he took him out, went down aswell..I still say there was a thumb somewhere in there that helped bring about the end.

I think Johnny invites David to be aggressive because of his style..then David punches himself out and gets taken out late.
