I don't understand the level of dislike Johnny Nelson gets, I think he's brilliant. I prefer him over Glen McCrory.

"I think Jim McDonnell is a brilliant motivator, but his tactics have to be questioned now. What was James DeGale's gameplan, particularly once the fight reached the halfway stage? To me it just seemed to be based on on George Groves' failures - and there were none of them whatsoever."

    some real talk from Jonny.

Johnny had no choice but to come out with an article like this.

Groves pulled him up on Ringside, and he embarrassed himself on fight night with his DeGale nuthugging.

He lost a lot of credibility so he is trying to salvage some.

DeGale v Groves winners and losers:

    Winners
    Groves
    Booth
    Team Haymaker

    Losers
    DeGale
    Warren
    McDonell
    Nelson!

Nelson is one of the worst aspects of the Sky boxing coverage....comes across as a complete **** all of the time.

Yeah to be fair the amount of humble pie eaten in that article would feed a small 3rd world country for a few days.

I think it's a ''meh....'' article, some good points and some bad, I'd be pretty surprised if Nelson went up to DeGale and told him that he got beat.

Nelson has been slipping for a while, the Ringside episode featuring Groves and DeGale was poor from his point of view, and on Saturday he exposed himself as a one-eyed nuthugger.

If he'd come out and said he got it wrong.... all respect to Groves etc fair enough, but all he's done is said Groves boxed out of his skin, DeGale was way off and it was a close fight.

How does he know that Groves couldn't box any better? He boxed as well as he needed to, to get past DeGale..... if there's a rematch DeGale might win, he might lose.

I'd expect better from someone that's paid to make observations.... it's just the same drivel that Addie was peddling on the forum earlier in the week.

His presenting on Ringside is about as good as John Barnes was on Channel 5

Nelson just jumps to the in form fighter, month after month. Groves even called him out about it on Ringside. Nelson had told him "he was the man" after he picked up the commonwealth belt and then he completely wrote him off after the Anderson fight.

Nelson almost embarrassed himself as much as Degale did in the build up.

I agree with this.... I give him credit for his apology, but there are lots of back-handed compliments in there.

He is basically saying, Groves boxed his life off, and DeGale didnt do **** all yet it was still close.

I bet you a BILLON pound that when these two fight again Nelson sides with DeGale.

Yep that is true...a token like Garth Crooks

I have always thought he would fit in well on ESB.

The fact is DeGale may have fought to his best ability and Groves may have just done enough to win with in himself.

    :thumbsup

The sort that DeGale doesn't really need right now.

Obviously the circumstances are different to when Khan lost, banjoed inside a round and all.... but at least he fronted up to the media immediately after and vowed to be back.

DeGale went for a sulk and then made himself look like a big soft kid in the Sky interview, punching the speedball, ''my life doesn't revolve around George Groves....''

Well, from where I'm sitting it ****ing does, 'cos you've a face like a smacked arse, my friend :patsch

I hope he comes back stronger and better, but major changes are needed, both in terms of personnel and his overall makeup. But at 25 though, is it too late to make them?

He always tries to butt in when McGuigan is talking and he always calls it wrong. His pre-assessment of the Groves vs Degale Weigh-in was embarrassing.
