My P button on the keyboard has taken a hammering since I joined this forum - the in-built keyboard software automatically recognises the letter P and begins clicking.
Come on now, he wasn't that bad he gave us that classic which is still talked about today. The Carlos Deleon fight. On second thoughts he was a tad Kak.
I remember Nelson saying he fought a few opponents he could tell were on PEDs and he beat them, so never thought it improved a fighter. I disagree with him, he would have just beat them more comfortably if they were not on peds imo. Though it makes me understand were his view comes from, I nevertheless disagree with him.
So what about in camp, when u can train longer and recover faster.. If u are working at say ur jab for more time surely the technique will improve? Its like anything in life the more u can practice it the better you will become at it?PEDS allow u to be able to practice a skill more
Daft statement from Nelson If I ever needed proof that peds can help a fighter I just watch Jones vs lebedev . People remember lebedevs face . I remember Jones walking through ****in everything .. He was like the hulk that night . Lebedevs wasn't the biggest puncher but catching somebody that often that clean walking onto punches and him not even looking arsed raises alarm bells for me
I think this is a slight exaggeration and I say this as an observer and not a fighter. When people talk of PEDS allowing fighters to "walk through punches" they need to specify which drugs they are talking about. Fowler made a thinly veiled accusation along these lines against Fitzgerald. I can't see how steroids could enable a fighter to walk through punches. There are oral steroids that induce "roid rage" and which heighten aggression and would probably be useful for a fighter in that respect but I cannot see how they would have such a dramatic impact as to minimise the effect of a punch to the head. Cocaine would theoretically also be useful in getting a fighter amped up. What drugs exactly do you think Jones took that enabled him to walk through the punches as you put it?
I believe most boxers use some kind of Performance enhancement (stamina etc etc). Its the masking agents where the research such as SNAC etc are really advanced as it masks the stimulants in testing. This is how you get around it. Most research in the past 12 years has not been on getting better testing equipment BUT advance chemical enhancements in Masking agents which "hide/flush" the presence in dated/usual testing equipment. What this allows is to take performance enhancements cycling off LATER without detection and traces. So you keep the "benefits" in your system longer or right the way to weeks of the fight where you ease off anyway. Advanced labs in using pharmaceuticals equipment can test independently (at a cost with NDA contracts) using same methods as lets say VADA etc and you see the results straight away if its detected/masking agents have worked. These are normally tested on someone else (not the boxer) and they test continuously. This is how i believe Canelo was caught his masking agents didn't "hide/flush" all traces but left residue amounts which can be accounted for in other food sources/supplements, if he got tested and caught. Dont ask me to explain further.
To be fair you are correct..despit drug use in my youth I wasn't out scrapping on it every weekend so I don't know whether it would effect punch resistance or not .. I can see coke helping .. I don't know if steroids increasing your testosterone could make you able to will your way through punches .. Is it pcp where you can taser a guy and they won't feel **** all .. . But I highly doubt a boxer would do that . They wouldn't get to the ring haha
The one thing where you are on the right lines is the improvement to stamina. No doubt that would have helped Jones in that fight. Would have probably improved his powers of recovery and gave him a boost in the later rounds. But yeah, a punch is a punch. Can't put muscles on your chin or your skull.
I think what he is trying to say is if your a **** boxer, with or without drugs it ain't gonna change tgat If your technique sucks then it sucks
