Did you see this article in the Scottish newspaper the Daily Record?

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/...-mccarthy-judges-called-burns-beltran-2265319

I AM Scottish and British and happy to be both.

But I’m a Scot first and foremost and on Saturday night at the end of a bleak sporting weekend for our nation – Andy Murray was dethroned as King of New York on Thursday, Scotland were skelped by Belgium on Friday – 6000 of my countrymen and women filled me with pride on Saturday.

They had just watched Ricky Burns take a beating from Raymundo Beltran and sat awaiting the confirmation from the judges’ scorecard that our man – brave as he had been, having suffered a broken jaw in the second round of his 12-round battle – had just lost the world crown.

They were gutted but knew Ricky had been beaten by the better boxer on the night. It’s sport. It happens.

But what followed was not sport. The judges, or rather two of the three, refused to give the Mexican the verdict. One of them, an American called Carlos Ortiz Jnr even gave Burns the win by three rounds. He should be made to publicly explain that decision because it was utterly ludicrous.

Much as we all love and admire Burns, he lost most of the rounds and was put on his backside by Beltran in the eighth. That Len Goodman guy who gives everybody inflated marks in Strictly Come Dancing On Ice-Factor or whatever it’s called would even have ruled our man had lost.

But not this Yank. And that might be a typo. And not the Englishman Richie Davis who called it as a draw which meant Ricky held on to his crown.

In most places that kind of hometown decision would have been greeted with unconfined joy. But not in Glasgow. Not in Scotland. The verdict was greeted with silence. The fans sat and squirmed because they knew this stank and a brave, skilled fighter had been denied the world title he’d sweated and made sacrifices for.

They were cringing because they knew a man had been wronged. If you look at a re-run, watch Ricky when the 115-113 vote is announced for Beltran from the Belgian judge. He looks at his opponent and gives him a definite nod of appreciation.

He knew he had lost but this travesty was not his fault and as a proud world champion who had battled through pain few of us can imagine he was never going to hand over the belt and say to the guy, “Have this, you deserve it”.

That’s not his job. He is in there to box. The judges are in there to judge and they did the credibility of their sport no favours.

Burns and Beltran did with their skill, bravery and honesty. The Scottish public did too with their reaction that refused to validate the verdict even though it had gone in favour of their man. I honestly don’t think there are many places in the world where that would have happened.

The judges had done Ricky almost as much as a disservice as they had to Raymundo because all the talk afterwards was about the verdict and not the valour.

For many, including this proud Scot, it was the night boxing ceased to be a sport I’ll take more than a passing interest in from now on.

When someone like Jim Watt says: “There are times I just don’t like this sport,” you know boxing is lying flat out on the canvas.

But I’m so thankful the Scottish sporting public did not give the knockout punch delivered by the judges a standing ovation.

Billy is not here any more so you can focus on your primary concern of alleged corruption in boxing.

You have let your obsession with Billy take you away from your crusade to clean up boxing.

As you can see from the above newspaper article the "Jocks" know that the decision was wrong so you can stop trying to bait them.

Your mission now is to become a hero to the boxing community with your campaign against corruption. It is small step to becoming a world renowned righter of wrongs.

Oh yes, word to the wise, when you contact Senator McCain you may want to play down the "jock" references. He has Scottish roots and might not understand your playful banter.

  8. I wouldn't get in touch with McCain if he was the last guy on Earth, guy's a war mongering buffoon.

Do you know who I think might be able to crack this case and who I'm going to get in touch with, but I have to warn you it's touch extreme.

    None other than Dicky Davis.

It's a shame you are so scared to step out of your comfort zone and actually do something that might make a difference.

All your ranting on here is starting to remind me of dog who has had his testicles removed. He barks and appears aggressive but when push comes to shove he rolls over and gives up.

He can say that all he likes after the fact, but after I think Round 4 he tells Ricky he probably lost the last two.

  13. Bloody hell what do you want, I've been in touch with the lead singer of echo and the bunnymen, crimewatch, rogue traders, sent a letter off to points of view and just got off the blower to Dickie ****ing Davis.

    And ya still not happy.

If you think it was a robbery why don't you do something ?

Smoggy.Did you notice Johnny admitted that he lost to Jones.I think its significant, though, that that fight was years ago.I didn't expect Ricky,Billy or Hearn to admit it straight after the fight. That would have made a bad situation even worse, almost verbal suicide.I can go back to the days of Howard Winstone ,Henry Cooper etc.Even world title fights had just the one ref making the decision.Foreign boxers more often than not got a fair crack of the whip here but not on the continent. Now its more the other way round. We,meaning GB not Scotland, seem to be the worst. In this particular case what bugged me was the British judge scored it a draw.Might be naive, but still like to think we believe in fair play. Not Burns or Nelsons fault, they did their best.

Now it's not about me, is it? You are the one shouting about the bribery and corruption in boxing. Yet you are unwilling to stand up for what you believe.

Anyway, as a keen observer of all matters relating to this fight I am sure you aware that the WBO have written to Eddie Hearn giving him 10 days to reply to a complaint from Top Rank regarding the outcome of the fight. If the WBO don't declare Beltran the winner then Top Rank have requested an immediate rematch.
