Said DeGale looked the best on the night and had the best future. Which contradicted what nearly every other person with eyes saw. So with 3 olympians on the bill, one black, two white... ...why do you think Nelson said DeGale was the best?
Maybe he did see a few things that were noticeable if we weren't dieing to see blood and guts and a brutal KO. His defence looked better than the others and his footwork was pretty good.
I'm not. DeGale was defensive. People blew it out of all kinds of proportion. He definitely was not the best out of the Olympians, Jeffries was, but the reaction during and post-fight has been shambolic.
You're still jumping the gun, the OP asked a question and I answered it honestly. I didn't comment what I thought of DeGales style or performance.
i think degale will get better, his style looks like a versatile one.. i think the way he throws a thousand punches a minute from all different angles might have reminded nelson of calzaghe..
I'm not Calzaghe's biggest fan, but that's harsh. DeGale reminded me more of Witter. Without the power.
I wasn't even talking about your post, so you've jumped way further than me my friend :good The general reaction in these parts has been astounding.
Its got nothing to do with black or white. It is all to do with styles, nelson loves the takes no risks, hit and not get hit, do enough to win style afterall that is the style that won all his title fights. In reality though, Degale was ****.
Nelson had Williams up on his scorecard in the Quintana fight. Which part of that was hit and not get hit?
Check through the thread, you must have been talking about my post. There was only 2 other posts in the thread at the time you posted and the other never even mentioned DeGales style...
Kevin Mitchell wrote an article in the guardian that was total drivel. I hate it when people who don't appreciate someone like DeGale are supposedly blood thirsty and not purists. They are labelled as uneducated boxing fans that don't know what they are seeing. That isn't the truth at all. DeGales performance wasn't impressive from a purist or blood thirsty perspective. It simply wasn't a good showing and should be accepted as much. As I, and many others thought, despite DeGale being the best amateur he would find it the hardest in the pros. It goes a long way to exposing the amateur system. DeGale and others are talking about the type of opponent he faced (survival journeyman). This wasn't why he couldn't stop him. All the others fought the same sort of opponent but they went for the knockout and didn't stop until they got it. They all fought in pro styles where they sat down on their shots, didn't slap, dug to the body, fought hard rounds and tried to land big shots.
