i agree with jc, after all degale's build up before the fight his performance on the night was ****. but it was only his debut, he's got a lot to learn and definately needs to shed his amateur style. lets just see what happens next. i like johnny too, but he's in no position to be slagging anyone off, and it wasnt long ago he was saying he wanted to come out of retirement to fight haye cos he felt he could beat him!! whats that all about??

    DeGales jab is a ***** slap/back hand.
His straight right is a cross between a tap and forward slap.
DeGales hook is a looping slap.
His uppercut is a whipping bolo punch.

Note: None of the above is a joke!

Just because he is a south paw who moves and doesn't engage does not mean he is the next coming of Whitaker like some would have you believe.

Out of all the amateurs that have turned pro, his performance is by far the worst.

    :)

I really want DeGale to succeed. Same as Amir. He is a British Olympian.

He talks a great fight but like Harrison if fights quite poor. He needs to adopt a pro style and that means quality punches where he sits down on them and he needs to dig to the body. He can't talk about how smart he is, how good his boxing brain is and then look so **** poor.

In the amateur his style is fun. It's like human fencing. It's very animated and over 8 minutes it is cool cos they are like energizer bunnys.

BUT OVER 36 MINUTES WHERE HE SLOWS DOWN HIS STYLE! WELL THEN YOU ARE HAVING A LAUGH!

Degales style is nothing like Calzaghe. People forget Calzaghe was heavy handed when he started out, getting ko's all over the place in his first 20 odd fights. After 2004 Calzaghe style completely changed.
Degale was just a joke, no power,no hand injuries and couldn't even hurt the journeyman.

oh man, I haven't gone through all this thread, but to suggest that Nelson's comments were motivated by race seems bloody dumb. no evidence for that. Imagine if yer Nelson reading this> what a king cnut he'd think you were

I agree with your post. The reaction to the crowd booing has been a disgrace . To label all fans who were not impressed with DeGale as mindless idiots is pathetic and similar to calling all Germans Nazi's or Paddy's thick. Yes some of those booing the fighter were idiots but most were well educated in boxing who just thought that DeGale was ****.

Jonny Nelson is a racist. Never seen him have one good word for a white fighter when one is fighting a black man. Maybe he does realise the **** he spouts but he definetly seems to have a vendetta of some sort.

Yep. I can not remember too many times Jonny being supportive of a white boxer over a black boxer, I doubt it has ever happened. :-( Especially random undrecard fights.

Hopefully someone will find something to prove me wrong because apart from this he seems a genuine good guy.
