Many of his fights, particularly his losses were at heavyweight where he was chucked in with big fighters. He won the WBF and WBU heavyweight titles. He was supposed to fight Mike Tyson too but it fell through, much to his relief.
It's still a residue from the 1980s way of tv companies doing boxing.the otherwise great Harry carpenter was the worst at this. He screamed "the Bruno story is over" as Frank took his first loss to Smith.he asked honeyghan to retire at 29 (albeit after two bad losses) but honey was still young needed to work and he did for 5 more years earned about $600,000 in that time . For all his faults Adam Smith's sky don't do this.fighters are bought back again and again....look at chisora he just fought probably his best fighter ever....and after 6 losses.....sky in the 2010"s deserve a lot of credit for this
I remember a similar thing being said by a commentator for the Lewis-McCall fight. The link is below "Lewis's career must be in tatters". This content is protected
id say the UFC have done more towards this, you have top guys there with 6/7/8 losses and nobody cares
U nailed it.the ufc with their ability to create stars and match them hard. Take a Jimmy young at his short defined peak it's highly arguable he beat foreman, ali,Norton,Lyle and drew with shavers....all the losses on his long slow decline mean nothing...on his day this man was a handful for anyone. Same for glencoffe johnson
