I'm watching this now, for the first time. Is this one of the greatest performances ever from a fighter from the United Kingdom? It certainly looks like it to me, Owen (RIP) turns into a lighter hitting, and cleaner Jeff Fenech against a tremendous fighter in his own right.

That was one of the most disgusting KO's I've seen in a while.

yeah the final right hand really was brutal

tough seeing owen on the canvas afterwards with his eyes wide open looking very confused

he put in some performance that night but pintor was just a bit too powerful

owen was a warrior though and should never be forgotten

It was brave of Owen but the truth of the matter is that he was trying to beat the scales and basically paid a very high price....It was fights like that that put a nail in the coffin of real boxing in my opinion, same day weigh ins and 15 round fights. RIP Johnny, great fighter but you did boxing a bit of a diservice.

Well he consistantly fought at the weight he was at.

Even if he was cutting down bigtime, it's no different to what 99% of boxers do.

He was outgunned by the power of Pintor and it was found in the autopsy that his skull was abnormally thin, which predisposed him to something like this. I think I read somewhere that he wouldn't have been licenced today with that condition.

All over the papers at the time if i remember,a real tragedy.Boxing was still such a mainstream sport at the time but i really can't recall the ban boxing brigade being out in force.Mind you, this could be due to selective memory and the 2nd bottle of red wine i've just finished.

Updates every day on the news as well Billy. The fight happened the same night as Hagler-Minter IIRC.
