Well enough....as any good fighter like he was.......Would be a great opponent for Mayweather IMO....
when his career started out wasnt he unbeatable. I know he beat middle Giardello , what happened?Wonder where is HE today?
Johnny Saxton was a heck of a fighter. He went unbeaten in his first 40 bouts.Managed by a mobster, he was fed and beat these tough guys, Joe Miceli, Tony Pellone, Luther Rawlings, Virgil Akins, Tiger Jones,Joe Giardello, Johnny Bratton, Freddie Dawson, and Kid Gavilan. These ftough bouts took it's toll and he was then kod by Tony DeMarco and Carmen Basillio, ending his career. he suffered from boxing dementia, insanity and was placed in a home...Under proper guidance he would have been even better. I have him over Mayweather, both at their bests 140 lbs. Tougher opponents he fought repeatedly...
Comin' outta the N.Y. GG's, Saxton was the one most likely to carry-on SRR's legacy. He was a helluva sweet boxer/puncher.
You're fukin kidding me. Just know in an alternate universe I put a detailed explanation about how you can't judge mob boxers. Pissed me right off it has. Kid would have been champ for years to come.
I'm probably one of the few, l, who believed Johnny legitimately deserved the nod against Basilio the first time.
His legacy hinges on the validity of his key victories and if you believe he earnt them then you'll rate him significantly higher.
