I recently watched the documentary "Absent" which highlights the affects of fatherless homes on children. There was a great part of the documentary that focuses on Johnny Tapia (filmed in 2009). I was curious if people here have seen it? If you have not, I highly recommend looking it up on Netflix, especially you Tapia fans. It's one thing to have seen the man fight and read about his troubles, but to hear it from the man himself just made it really powerful to me. RIP Johnny.
It's not the interview where he talks about how he would die without Theresa is it? Don't know if I can watch that again.
Nope, completely different. He did mention the wife, but in comparison to how he treats her more as a mother because he was robbed of his. Very sad story. If you have Netflix, get it. I'll try and find a link that has the Tapia story cut out of the documentary, but I haven't had any luck so far. Emotionally powerful. Anybody with empathy will feel Tapia's pain through his words.
Best I found so far is Amazon, but they'll charge you $4 to rent it for 7 days. Still looking for a free one.
Thanks mate.I haven't felt a celebrity death quite the way I've felt Johnny's. Perhaps ever.I've taken it terribly badly and it's a pet hate of mine that every thread about Johnny makes a rapid trip to the back pages.:fire
Thanks for the heads up. Johnny was emblematic for many who fought demons. His being far more open and extreme than most. I'll have to track this down. Johnny's life should be used as a cautionary tale. Not that we need another one about the damaging effects of absentee fathers.
They should make a movie about his life, seriously. His story should be told, and Johnny wanted his story told so he could help others. (He said as much in the Doc) Maybe even though he's gone, his story can still help people. The guy said his belts meant nothing to him, he just wanted to feel loved. Sad.
Hey all, looks like a documentary is being put together on Johnny Tapia. It says on the Facebook page that it will be shown at LA film festival in June 2013. It's going to be called "TAPIA". https://www.facebook.com/Tapiathemovie -This is the facebook page for the documentary where you can check out clips/trailers for the movie, as well as information on the LA film festival.
