@ Bantamweight. How do you see this match up going? Johnny Tapia had the faster hand speed, reflex and chin while Marquez had the power, timing, and jab. Both could box smart but could they avoid getting into a brawl? This would have been a helluva bloody scrap. I'm not sure who to favor.

    Great fight, hard to call

I'll say big lad Johnny Tapia but both from what I've seen there pretty evenly matched

I’d go with Rafael. That jab was torture especially for smaller fighters even as good as Tapia.

Idk but I’ll favor Rafael because he managed to beat Austin.

Oh man, two all-time faves of mine..

Rafa was a savage bantam, a holy terror...but Mi Vida Loca was maybe quicker, tougher, and savvier than anybody he faced.

Too Sharp is quicker and just as tough and savy as Tapia

If Tapia was able to roll out the kind of sharp but disciplined effort that he did against Konadu straight after stepping up from super-fly, I'd probably give him a good shot at winning a pretty competitive one on points. He took away Konadu's excellent jab in that fight and countered really well with his own, mixed in countering on the move with getting off first with sharp combos upstairs and down.

Too Sharp had equal handspeed and better punching power but he was more flat footed compared to Tapia. Plus he was a bit past it by the time he fought Marquez.
Tapia wins in a close fight if he fought a disciplined fight. In a brawl, though, Marquez would have KO'd a reckless Tapia.

Damn good matchup. I don't know - Tapia on points, maybe split decision?

I dunno Flo. I agree with everything but that Marquez would knock Tapia out, he was made of iron. Barrera unloaded on him up at feather for twelve rounds and couldn't dent him.

Smaller weight fighters tend to age much quicker, plus Mark Johnson was also serving a year in prison before he fought Rafael Marquez.

Barrera didn't have the kind of power Rafa possessed. Don't get me wrong Tapia was indeed a very tough fighter, I just think that Marquez had the punching power and aggression to possibly stop Tapia. When Marquez is out for blood he's usually a brutal finisher.

The smaller fighters age fast meme goes out the window when Too Sharp would go on to beat Montiel and win another title.

Also he had 2 warm up fights at bantam after the year layoff I dont think we can use that to say he wasnt in top form
