Damn good trade!! Askren might be the best wrestler in the UFC now. Very good fighter that has a great shot at 170 gold. This content is protected
Just goes to show the overall fans aren't interested in midget fights. If the UFC had a bigger presence in Asia that might be different I suppose. Johnson is an elite fighter but really doesn't do it for the general fans or the ufc's bottom line. It is what it is. Smaller men/midgets in boxing are much more popular for promotions/fans. This is a sign that the UFC may just dissolve the 125/midget division and force those fighters up to 135 to stack that division. I would say they will eventually open 165 and make 170 into 175.
disappointed in the ufc… I ain't a huge fan of Johnson especially after he turned down dillashaw fight.. but still.. the ufc promoted this guy as #1 pfp guy in the world (he wasn't) but that's not the point the way they tried to push that.. then to bail on the guy like this once he loses one fight... and to trry and trade him is disgraceful..
I hear you. Johnson lost a razor-thin decision to Cejudo after being Flyweight champ for ages: at least give the guy an immediate rematch before deciding on whether or not to trade him.
That's one I would like to see; but Askren is still pretty much unproven in MMA against top calibre opposition, so I wouldn't be against seeing Askren earn the superfight against Khabib. Askren and Covington have been going back and forth a bit on Social Media, so maybe that's a fight that can be made for Askren at 170 in the he not too distant future.
Johnson won that Cejudo fight imo and most people's opinion from what I've read. It $ucks after such a long defending streak. Most UFC champs can barely make 1 or 2 defences.
And then you have some Irish guy with the initials C.M who was a champion in two divisions and never defended either strap.
The UFC has really turned into a fake smoke and mirrors magicians show trying to fool the dumb general fight fans. They were fine to allow Conor to bring his two belts to the press conferences and even walking into the cage against Khabib making casual fans think he is still the 2 division king when in reality they had to strip him twice for refusing to defend belts against top contenders when he's under contract. Just hope when they inevitably open up 165 it's 2 worthy callengers for that strap not frikin Conor and Nate who is barely top 10 at 155 and wouldn't be top 20 at 170.
Tell me about it. There was a point immediately after the face-off after the weigh-in where Dana can clearly be seen and heard to say "Where's Conor's belts?" This was hilarious to me, as it was basically Dana letting the mask slip and revealing that he gives preferential treatment to Conor -- often to the detriment of others. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/mmaj...bout-dana-white-asking-for-mcgregor-belts/amp
He was robbed in that last fight, and in my opinion, he was the #1 pound for pound guy. Dominating like he was doing at 5'2, always the smaller man in the cage.
