:fireI like Chad Dawson a lot. I think he is a great young fighter. I also think he will easily defeat Tarver tonight. But he did not defeat Johnson in April of 2008. Glen Johnson exposed boxing in his post fight interview. The politics of boxing cost an aging, but a very good pugilist a deserve fight and purse. Dawson, I believe would have beaten Johnson in a tough and close fight in a rematch, but never the less Johnson deserved the opportunity. Tarver is done. He lacks the hunger to win. His only claim to fame is beating RJJ and a split with Johnson. I hope after Dawson defeats Tarver tonight, he ignores his promoter and give Johnson what he has earned, a title shot and a good payday.
lol I dislike the alternate reality where people have their own interpretation of what really went down in this case Johnson beating Dawson or in other cases, Collazo over Berto, over Hatton etc basically rewriting history with that in mind I'd like to view the 1st fight again as it was closer then the scorecards said, and I recall Johnson doing more damage but Dawson winning more rounds.
Which is how I saw it. Dawson did more work, Johnson did the more impressive work. That said the thread starter indicates that Dawson would win a close disputed decision, technically bringing us ALL the back to square 1 of this thing. In other words "I want to see the rematch where the EXACT same thing would happen that happened in the 1st fight."
That's correct. Johnson rocked Dawson badly more than once in the later stages of the fight, and he no doubt did worse to Dawson than vice-versa, but Dawson still won the fight by piling up the points. That being said, the image most of us have of that fight is of Johnson hurting Dawson, and it'll remain an unsatisfying victory on his resume if he does not give Johnson a rematch.
Johnson did not win although he kept it close and competitive. Johnson has kept every fight close and tough for the past decade. One of the better orthodox vs southpaw fighters out there.
Oh yeah, I'm right with you on your post. I imagine we'd have the same thing that happened with Jermain Taylor after his close victories over Hopkins: tons of backlash and even more people waiting for him to get knocked out.
BTW just BOXREC'ed Glen and 8 out of his last 12 opponent's have been Southpaw's.That's gotta be some kind of record.
Bull**** on the whole Johsnon beat Dawson gospel. It was close and the judges favored Dawson. A lot of people felt the same. Close fight doesn't = robbery :-( But a rematch would be the idea fight if Dawson can't land Hopkins, JC, or a big name from 168 first.
Dawson is probably going to end up fighting Johnson again for lack of options and a chance to prove himself. But we saw what happened tonight when Dawson tried to prove himself against Tarver again, he did the same thing again. Which is what will probably happen against Johnson again, the only difference is the judges.
