    Its a tough call.

Jeffries was the better man morally in terms of his personal conduct. He was honest, decent, and seems to have tried to avoid using his fists on civilians.

That has to be ballenced against the fact that he held certain racist viewpoints, and ultimately aligned himself with the wrong side of the colour line debate.

This question worms itself into just about every Johnson vs. Jeffries debate anyway, so we might as well get it out in the open and over with.

If I had to be involved in a fender bender with one of them, I would choose Jeffries.

Having said that it would be much easier to get Johnsons autograph and he would be far more likley to buy you a drink. He was simply far more fan friendly.

I would be more likley to buy a used car off Jeffries.

Johnsons atitudes on race and civil liberties would be much more paletable today.

If we are going by what worms its way into every thread, maybe we need a mendoza mcvey morality question?

Jeffries was the morally better person, but he didn't have to live with Jack's difficulties. Given his surly and sullen approach to the wider world, it's hard to imagine how he would have taken to the title had the white man been a persecuted minority.

Johnson did not give his fellow Black fighters a title shot. They hated him more than they hated Jeffries.
