The double standard on the Walcott vs. Louis fight no. 1 needs to end... If we give credit to primary sources and the media FOR ALL of Greb's wins.. (ya know the ones we can't see) and can rank him so high on the p4p list.. we can't go by the SAME SOURCES who scored it for Walcott WITH some added video which shows Walcott clearly winning, making Louis look bad (which continues in the second fight) and Showboating (which also continued in the second fight until he gets caught doing it one to many times)... Please.. we can certainly score that a win for Walcott... and this notion that since we can't see the film we can't score it that way is JUST PLAIN SILLY
Taking the word of a majority of newspaper men over a serious number of newspaper men is risky in my opinion. At the very least you have to ask what those 18 men, two judges and sixteen newspaper men, saw that made them score the fight for Louis. I also think a sense of ranking in terms of legitimacy of primary sources is reasonable. If Ring and The New York Times and 16 other people with opinions that count score a fight for fighter B, you had better take note, in my opinion. Unpicking history is not just a question of counting votes, whatever the field.
I agree McGrain, my issue is with a few comments that since we can't SEE the fight.. we'll just have to score it a draw. That directly goes against how we rank countless people and fights we weren't filmed, but we still come to conclusions about them. That was my only point. I agree, the people who voted for Louis does carry weight. My only issue was with the above which is just silly.
