the less than 1% of 1% was being very generous, not scientific. Based on personal experiences, and working 6 years in the bar all through school, I have NEVER seen an ankle lock, or a ground and pound resulting in a tap out, or a spinning elbow in the middle of the dance floor. So 0% of fights end up using what you see in the Octagon and 100% of street fights use what someone could recognize as childish boxing.

You, along with most mma fans, seems confused by this. I at least am not saying mma wouldnt be useful in a street fight. But not many hot heads cruising the bars know any real art. They can just throw their hands and arms around and try and land haymakers. Like Wilder.

So because, no matter how sloppy or inebriated, that you throw a punch during a street fight, then thats proof that boxing, the sweet science, is superior to MMA in fighting?

You're having a really tough time with my point, eh? Again, to repeat, I am not offering any opinion about what would be more efficient in a street fight (personally, fine, I would bet the house on Combat JJ being the BEST art for a street fight), I'm saying what the vast majority of street fights resemble. Boxing. Complete noob boxing for the most part, or something resembling Wilder's KO of Audley after he hurt him.

Bottom line, the majority of street fights have no technique, the fighters only fight for an average of 30 seconds (that is a reliable stat that im not gonna reference lol) and they try and punch each other in the face. Street fights LOOK like boxing, on some level, but rarely resemble an mma match, except for the moment one guy goes down and the other dude jumps on top of him. So for that split second, before the crowd jumps in, it could look like a take down and the start of a ground and pound. Now even if the crowd doesnt jump in, the guy on top might **** up his knee jumping to the ground and landing on hard concrete or pavement, the guy on the bottom could be dead after smashing the back of his head off the railing as he was going down, or they could both start slipping off each other like two mud wrestlers, covered in beer, peanuts, napkins, and generally slime from the ground.

Nah, I just think you are making this up as you go along and are confusing boxing with punching

By the time I made that post, the conversation appeared to have veered towards street fights in general; not boxer vs. MMA guy.

There's so many things in that article to focus on tbh, so I've just centred on the easiest point. Which sport more closely resembles your average, run of the mill street fight?

MMA. Clinching, holding and hitting, and wrestling around sloppily (on the feet and the ground) are all staples of your average street fight.

So you claim to have seen close to 1,000 bar fights and they ALL included punching.

    I'm calling BULL****

didnt say all. Vast majority. At least for bar fights in Southern Ontario, the vast majority have punching, then probably weapons or dirty fighting like bottles and chairs, then they grapple I would say. That's just my experience working the door throughout University and a bit after.

Throwing someone out, did I EVER even try and box with them? Hell no. Small joint manipulation if in close, chokes if coming from behind, or even a koko choke from the front, or worst case, pepper spray. Never boxing lol. Combat JJ

**I did say all lol. Exagerration...

Street fights generally end up looking more like hockey fights than anything. With some Chuck Liddell looking overhands thrown in for good measure.

i guess you could say they might resemble mma fights without high kicks or a ground game. Only strikes, because they do try and kick sometimes too
