We're not talking about hypotheticals. He handily beat a guy in JuCo who later went on to become a Division 1 national champ, and he's easily outwrestled high-level amateur wrestlers in MMA.
Not a troll If you havent wrestled successfully internationally at the collegiate level you are not world class.
The real issue here is your claim that MMAists aren't athletes. Fine. By your nonsensical logic, you win. Jones isn't really exceptional at anything. He's just some bum in a "sport" full of even bigger bums who's been hyped up by Zuffa.
I'd like to see him fight guys his own size before I annoint him the best in the world. I can beat on 10 year olds too. I say the same thing about Anderson, fight guys your size before you can claim you are the best. You may be the best at cutting weight but beating up smaller guys isn't the same as beating up equals. Not that I don't think he can't I just reserve the right to say anyone is the best ubtil they prove it against proportional sized guys. Atleast Anderson dipped his toes in the 205lb division, thats more then JJ can say.
I'm so sick and tired of this bull****. In combat sports, size is determined by mass not physical dimensions. Jones has a freakish reach, but he's not a "big" 205er by any stretch. Miguel Torres is a 5'10" Bantamweight with a 76" reach. Should he be fighting guys "his size" at Welterweight or Middleweight? Should 6'5" Tamdan McCrory or 6'6" Kendall Grove be fighting at HW? Because we all saw how dominant their "size" advantages made them over people in their respective weight class in the UFC. Where are the complaints about large 205ers like Forrest, Diabate, Gustafsson, Vemola etc.? If Jones is too "big" for LHW, then so are half the other guys in the division. Why don't you save this nonsense for the day when Jones can't make weight anymore or at least comes into the weigh ins for his fights looking visibly drained?
Since you brought it up, let's talk about Anderson Silva's size. Dude was a Welterweight before he filled out, and he looked pudgy when he fought at 205 recently. Who are these 185ers in the UFC whom he's supposedly had a massive size advantage over? His recent opponents (Vitor, Okami and Sonnen) were all HUGE Middlweights. ****, half the guys that he's fought in the UFC at Middleweight have fought multiple times above 185 in their careers. Criticizing Silva for only fighting smaller guys is ridiculous. What the **** do you even mean by "proportionally sized guys?" You want distinctions made between fighters who are lanky, fighters who are stocky and guys who fall in between in addition to the standard weight classes?
I also want tattooed vs. non-tattooed fighter divisions, and classes for fighters based on their hairstyles. Anderson Silva will never legitimately be #1 on my P4P list until he beats at least three other tall, skinny guys who have shaved heads and no body art. :bart
Stefan Struve better watch out. I'd like to see divisions based on shoe size. Marco Ruas would never have made it as far as he had if he hadn't been allowed to face Paul "Little girl feet" Varelans. Actually, divisions based on hairstyles would put a whole new spin on 'cutting' before a weigh-in.
