Beating up Matt "The Hammer" Hamill and grandad Matyushenko is not the same as facing the ****ing monster that tore up the greatest MMA tournament in history.

Jones has never taken punishment or felt pressure.

And Shogun is most definitely the wrong man to introduce him to these aspects of MMA.

Unlike those before him, Shogun doesn't freeze at a punch or a take down or a stuffing of a takedown. He is also a young phenom so pressure is absolutely nothing to him. Plus, no matter what your size or style, Rua doesn't blink at the obstacle. Big as Overeem or tricky as Machida - he is coming to **** you up!

Everything I've stated are not opinions, they are facts proven time and time again.

A fit and healthy Rua angry for 25 mins doesn't help anyone and with the way he fights even if you are there late in the fight - you will be HURTING!

 

Prime Rua no contest at all. This current version. Very much 50/50 with the odds stacked in Jones favor because of Rua's mileage.

 

:huh Is this guesswork based on Rua's lay-off, or did you actually see any evidence of Rua being greatly diminished in the Machida rematch?

 

Rua's knee's are shot. He's had multiple surgery's on both knee's. Physically he's body's been spent for a long time. What we saw in Machida Rua was just a clash of styles whereby Machida wasn't able to handle Rua's aggression.
Rua's long lay off coupled with his knee injurys in my opinion doesnt bode well at all vs a young hungry up and coming unique talent like Bones.
Realistically the facts are Rua has looked average since coming to the UFC. He was beaten by Griffin. And looked very average vs Coleman and Liddell who were both has beens. As much as id like to believe, the Shogun of the PRIDE 2005 GP is long gone. Aggresive Muay Thai styles like that never have much longevity.

 

I think there's a lot of speculation in there, as logical as it may be. Rua looked superb in the Machida fights, and those were his most recent outings. I'd say the Rua of the Griffin & Coleman fights is long gone, and that the evidence of his last two suggest he is back on the road to 2005 form. (this may be wishful thinking, but we will soon see)

 

Speculation? Those are the FACTS. You can be as optimistic as you like. But when you've been under the knife numerous times for knee injury's the fat lady is singing. The same happened to Mark Coleman and he was never the same.
If Rua can do what he did consistently as he did vs Machida il become a believer. But the facts are he has not. He only has ONE significant win.

I think Rua has regained his mojo since the loss to TUF winner Forest Griffin in his debut UFC fight. He certainly looked to be back to one hundred percent in the Machida fights.

However styles make fights and there's not a single individual in that video package that presents the grappling challenge that Jon Jones poses in the ring due to his sheer athleticism, strength and size. Jon Jones isn't another overmatched Japanese gumby fighter.

The opportunity to remind everyone that he is the best in the world by crushing Jon Jones is right in front of him. Let's hope Shogun has worked out whatever issues he was having that were keeping him from performing at peak levels according to some.

 

I just hope that if Jones wins people won't churn out too many excuses and will give him credit.

I think Rua has a good chance of winning this fight but odds are Jones takes it.

 

In hindsight, even foresight, we should have seen that Ruas poor performance are always a result of not being 100%.

Fighters in the UFC should be ever so happy that he isn't allowed to stomp their heads in!
