Okay, so say Cain Velasquez defeats Silva, dos Santos in the rubber match and Jon Jones (coming off wins against Gustafsson and Cormier); does Velasquez break the MMA GOAT Trinity of Fedor/St.Pierre/Silva?
He'd have a case for greatest heavy sure, that puts him up there. Think maybe JJ needs a run at HW, or it would be similar to Beej and St Pierre 2, great win at the time but...you know the story Cormier on his resume would trump anything there though...
All great points, Stoo. I do think that Jones moving up is a bit different than Penn. Everybody viewed Penn as a 'natural' LW. Speculation on Jones' move to HW has followed him since his first couple of fights in the UFC. But it's gonna fun seeing how things play out. Jones will move up. It seems inevitable, no?
Even above winning the series with dos Santos? I guess stylistically I can see it being more impressive. I think Cormier wants Gold. So whomever he fights; he'll make sure it's for a title.
Might be just about even with the JDS trilogy considering Juniors resume. I think Cains is a little light compared to Dos Santos' (maybe a Fedor/Nog thing developing here), out wrestling Dan would be the icing on the cake, but he is his coach so wont happen Yeah cant blame Dan for going for gold in these circumstances, just think it would be epic at Heavy as it would open up the division a little(and 205 if Jones wins and stays at hw for that matter), Big Foot, Mir, Nog, Huntuuu ect arent getting any younger and and have all been beat. What would happen if Dan beats JJ and JDS beats Cain...more rematches...
It's a 2 fight win streak -- its pretty bad they resort to mention that as if it's some great accomplishment. lol GSP and Silva have been undefeated for years but most of the other champs toss the belt around like herpes. One of the aspects i dislike about UFC. I don't agree with the boxers fighting nobodies. The average pro will fight guys on their level and they have to battle their way up. They aren't going to put a rookie pro against contender, he gotta climb that LONG latter and hope and pray for a title shot someday. By that point they are usually 15-25 wins later with barely any losses. Its just boxing has more guys like GSP who have mastered their advantages and are mentally tough and intelligent. I''m assuming UFC has hundreds of fighters now in each division like boxing does, but maybe I'm wrong and maybe that's why the latter is so short.
atsch what a load of ****... boxing is one of if not THE most manipulated sport in the world. you could make a list a mile long of guys who fought nobody after nobody before getting 1 or two fights against has beens then bang....title shot. that formula is as old as boxing itself
Yes, you're very wrong. There's less than 30 fighters in the UFC's heavyweight division. Silva, Hunt, Cormier, and Werdum are the only options for a title shot and they were all booked when Velasquez/Silva II was announced. And if you go down the heavyweight roster Mark Hunt is literally the only guy to be on a longer streak of 2 victories inside The Octagon.
JJ TKO2. A series of devastating strikes breaks Velasquez down, I wouldn't be surprise if JJ kneecaps him in that opening round.
I see nothing wrong with fighting your way up like that. It's not so much nobodies they are fighting, its other pro boxers fighting their way up also, its just not many of them make it. They don't go on to win 2 fights though and then get put in with Pac or Mayweather. :rofl The right answer may just be the fact boxing is MUCH older and contains hundreds of talented boxers in each division.
I dont think there is much precedent for Jones kodding LHW's with ''devastating blows'' Robert let alone HW'S. What's the precedent for this Robert? Overeem had to munch on roids for years and even he couldnt kod ''chinny'' Big Foot The only example of someone going up in weight and kodding an elite HW is Hendo v Fedor, and even then there was only a 16lb difference. Do you think Jon carries the same power as Hendo Robert? Jones could stop Cain via elbows from the top, but do you think he could take down a 240 wrestler when he didnt have nearly the same sucess v a guy like Rampage Robert? I think utilizing his long limbs via using reach knowledge on the feet and subs on the ground will be the key to Jones moving up Robert, not kodding people in opening rounds at HW Robert. What do you think Robert?
