Again meaningless. Citing losses early in his career means nothing in a sport like MMA. Considering Silva had a serious ankle injury when he was subbed by Chonan - which Chonan apparently knew about - and you're point has even less merit. You can only judge a fighter according to the time he fought in against the quality of the competition at the time. And both Chonan and Takase were very competent.
Simplified comparisons such as yours head to head based on age are thoroughly meaningless and unquantifiable. I'm not sure what you've managed to extrapolate from that bearing in mind the body of Silva's entire career which makes him a lock for a top 10 ATG.

There's nothing to concede as i never implied 'credentials' were enough to win a fight?!?!?! Go back and READ my post. Then watch Hendo's grappling in MMA.

It means everything when we're comparing the early incarnation of Silva to present day Jones, which is was what I was doing when you took umbrage at my earlier post. I really don't see how you can spin this. Jones is a better all-around fighter at present than Silva was a decade ago. Barring some sort of fluke in cage injury, the present incarnation of Jones would never lose to (or even have competitive fights with) UFC mid-carders.

    I'll say it again...

Anderson hadn't had an MMA fight when he was Jones' age yet.

...and you'd be wrong, again. Silva fought professionally in MMA for the first time when he was 22.

Except you have no way of quantifying that and 4 posts later you're still repeating the same thing with no sound explanation as to why.

Really? The fact that Jones is the champ of the biggest MMA promotion, is in the middle of one of the best runs in MMA history and has almost cleared out all of the established contenders in his division while Anderson had done nothing of the sort at that stage his career isn't evidence that Jones is a better MMAist at present than Anderson was a decade ago?

Kel's right. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Hendo has poor takedown defence considering his wrestling credentials and isn't great off his back, Jones will IMO put him there and elbow his way to a stoppage victory.

Yes really. What i'm trying to understand is the reasoning behind what you're saying. But you've still yet to substantiate anything you've said. If you think his current run is evidence because he's in the biggest MMA promotion again i ask you, so what? Silva fought in the best promotion in the world at the time?
You're trying to find a comparison between something that is simply not comparable. How would Jones fare under PRIDE rules vs a PRIME Shogun or Rampage? We'll never know that. So citing these wins as evidence of him being better than Silva at the same stage is fallacious at best.

So who were those top level fighters that Silva beat earlier in his career again? Silva fought in Pride, which was undoubtedly the strongest promotion at the time, but he didn't beat any elite fighters and was stopped twice by mid-tier opponents (a fact which you laughably keep ignoring). You think that Jones' current run doesn't prove anything, but your "proof" that young Silva was just as good as he is now boils down Silva's wins later in his career and the fact that everybody at Chute Boxe thought that he was talented.

BTW Jones would be just as dangerous under Pride rules. He wouldn't have elbows, but he'd be able to use leg strikes to the head of down opponents. He's dominant a grappler who has excellent takedowns and can easily control his opponents on the ground.

What do you think he'd be doing in this position if stomps, soccer kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent were allowed under the unified rules?

Learn to READ and understand Thom. You're failing at this horribly. Again all you've added is more subjectivity and not a single shred of concrete much less sound proof. Your entire argument is full of 'ifs' 'buts' 'maybe's' and supposition. How would Jones fight under PRIDE rules? The reality is neither you nor i will ever know that. So a clip showing Jones bashing up a shot Shogun and a further clip of Aoki after his bout with Sakurai make you sound like a fanboy.
And why not cite Azerado or Okami as well? I recall both fights and Silva loosing both. I also recall him struggling with Lee Murray at CR. You say he didn't beat any elite fighters when Silva destroyed Newton. Beat Sakurai, Jeremy Horn and also Alex Stiebling. All of those four were considered the best fighters in the world at their weight AT THE TIME. You have now relegated all of them as insignificant either because you've never seen the fights, or don't know who they are, or are too much of a fanboy to even care.

    :patsch

Silva's age at time of victory:

    26 - Sakurai
    27 - Steibling
    27 - Newton
    29 - Horn

And don't forget he's got the submission loss to 4-7 fighter Takase in the middle of those four names, at age 27. :good

Meanwhile, Jones' age at the time of his capture of the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship, and subsequent title defences:

23 - Shogun Rua (Became the undisputed world champion)
    24 - Rampage Jackson
    24 - Lyoto Machida
    24 - Rashad Evans

So Jones has basically cleaned out the LHW division of the world's top promotion, and utterly destroyed all the ex-champs and top contenders. After he slaughters Dan Henderson, it's basically acknowledged by all that there's pretty much no-one left, and no call for anyone he's fought to get a rematch.

But you're right scurla, it's totally unreasonable to state that the young version of Jon Jones has shown himself to be a greater MMA fighter than Anderson Silva was at the same age. :patsch
