Jon Jones vs Dan Henderson @ UFC 151

Not exactly sure what would consitute concrete proof. But Jones has not shown the obvious weakness in his game like Silva has, has not been beaten in the fashion like Silva has (matters less)

He has also beaten better fighters at the age 24 than Silva had.

 

Think Scurla is overrating Henderson's defensive wrestling but he's bang on about the Jones vs. Silva comparison. Jones' game has been honed for years by the type of camp that simply didn't exist in the early noughties, so its hardly surprising and less than meaningful he has a better all-round game. And Silva did have success against top competition before having a mid-career dip - who's to say the same won't happen to Jones?

 

Jones will most likely win but Hendo always has that right hand if he can land it that is

 

Chute Boxe started cross training fighters between Muay Thai and grappling arts in 91, and it certainly wasn't the only gym training Vale Tudo fighters in Brazil back then. Silva joined the team when he was 22. The same age that Jones was when he went to Jackson's. Jones had only been with Jackson's for two years when he won the title. Before that, he was training in a small gym in NY and getting most of his striking tips from Youtube vides.

MMA records aren't that accurate. They're constantly verifying new fights. I just read an article about how Demetrious Johnson had 4 or 5 fights added to his official record right before the McCall fight.

On one hand, Jon Jones.

24 years old. Essentially unbeaten. Dominant world champion and top-3 p4p-er. Record in UFC title fights 4-0 (3). Easily decimated four ex-champions of his division, plus an undefeated prospect with a glittering amateur wrestling pedigree. Brutally stopped all but one of them. Currently in the middle of one of the greatest runs ever seen in the sport. Last 18 months of his career is the stuff of legend, drawing comparisons to an undefeated Mike Tyson.



On the other hand, Anderson Silva.

29 years old. Fights towards the bottom of the card in PRIDE events. Reasonable success as a mid-to-lower carder, except for the submission losses. Yet to challenge for a title or headline a card.



Who has done more in the early-mid stages of their career?

Let's ask scurla. Scurla? Who's better? The dominant UFC world champion with multiple one-sided title defenses against the top of his otherwise-competitive division? Or the PRIDE FC bottom-of-the-card, thrice-defeated guy who has some potential?

The PRIDE guy is just as good if not better?
