Bisping was the champ strictly because of dumb luck. He fluke KO’d a guy that choked him out with one arm, then defended the belt against a #13 ranked 46 year old Dan Henderson by controversial split decision.

Gane was actually the best fighter in the division when Jones beat him, and many believed he actually beat Ngannou. Its a way better win, and its not even close. Jon actually beat the best guy of the division, GSP beat arguably the weakest male UFC champion ever.

 

The same guy who couldn't take down a one legged fighter and a failed NFL player? Truly a high level grappler.

Aspinall isn’t primarily a wrestler. He’s a fast, reactive heavyweight who mixes striking with opportunistic grappling. Two half-committed attempts in a striking match don’t show the Gane can actually grapple.

What matters is that when Ngannou chose to wrestle with a torn knee, Ciryl Gane couldn’t stop it. And then when Jon Jones immediately forced grappling exchanges, Gane looked completely clueless.

You mean he knocked out a very good fighter in Luke Rockhold who had already beat him by exploiting a flaw in his defense? How is that now a fluke? And while the Henderson fight was a bit of a gimmie all the other best fighters were busy at the time and Henderson was coming off a solid win against Héctor Lombard so not the most egregious defense. You're also misremembering its wasn't a "controversial split decision" it was a clear unanimous decision where Bisping had some bad moments but still clearly won.

He lost to a one legged Ngannou by getting outwrestled the same way Jones beat him lol. No one believed he beat Ngannou or that he was the best fighter in the division. Jones fought him because he knew Gane was an easy win against someone who can't actually grapple. Hence why he then took the Miocic fight (which you conveniently ignore) who hadn't fought in forever and then refused to fight Aspinall. Maybe don't make up history just to glaze Jones, doesn't make you look good.

Beating a guy who can't grapple at all vs beating a guy who can and was a solid well rounded fighter I wonder which is more impressive? And no Jones ducked all the best fighters of the division first Ngannou and then Aspinall. But nice try with your revisionist history sadly for you ik much more about MMA then you will ever know
