Tyson could beat him but I only see it as a remote possibility. The only way I see Tyson winning is if he blasts Jon with a big hook in the first 5-10 seconds of the fight. Kinda like with Mercer-Sylvia.

Jones simply has many more ways to win.

There really isn't a comparison to Rashad Evans. Evans is a highly skilled well rounded mma fighter. Jones was a little weary against Rashad because he was worried about the punches, kicks and takedowns.

With Tyson, all Jones has to worry about is the punch. All Tyson can do is punch. Everybody and their grandma knows that Tyson is going to go for the high heat right out of the gate, no surprises.

How many of Tyson's opponents were able to engage in a clinch with him? Without checking I'd say all of them.

All Jon has to do is get in one clinch with Tyson and it's all over.

I see Jon easily taking Mike down to the canvas and winning by brutal gnp TKO or submission.

Jon might have many ways to win, but what are they?

He doesn't finish people on the feet, he gets the odd submission here and there. It's mainly TKO stoppages.

Jon CANNOT fight backing up, has TERRIBLE Boxing, his variety of punches and kicks is weak as well. Mike would be way too small for Jon to land his spinning backfist on...

It's more than worrying about the punch, because it's not that simple.

I hear what you're saying. It's a given that Jones would be at a clear disadvantage if he stayed in the pocket and traded hands with Tyson.

    but.....

What other than a punch does Jones have to worry about? Tyson has no kickboxing expertise, no wrestling expertise, and no grappling expertise.

Mike Tyson is accustomed to slipping punches on his way in, he has no idea how to deal with oblique kicks, roundhouse kicks, front kicks etc to the knee, leg, body and head. From short range Jon is famous for his vicious short elbow strikes that cut opponents, again a technique that Tyson doesn't have to train to defend in boxing.

Jon isn't a slow Lummox, he is a great athlete himself and fast. Given the enormous height and reach disparity Tyson would have to absorb some strikes coming in....and this isn't even how I think Jon would win.

Tyson if he had some intelligence he would be wary of getting to close to Jon because the fight is over the second they clinch.

Look at Tyson fights...The opponents he KO'd, the one he decisioned, the ones he was knocked out by. How many times was there a single clinch in the bout? All Jon needs is one clinch and it's over. Single underhook, doube underhook, hell even double overhooks...Tyson would be taken down and summarily finished off.

    I hear you, pal.

I just feel this is one of those fights that even though the person with more skills should win, they don't.

Fair play on a good discussion, though. You clearly know your stuff and responded with some great points. Cheers! :good;)

If Jon Jones fought a 21 year old Tyson, I would have to go with Tyson based on his speed and pure aggression. But it's back to the same old thing, it doesn't matter how hard you hit once you have been taken down. I would have to back a world champion mma fighter against a world champion boxer based on the advantages that the mma fighter would have.

A long post full of junk. Another myth buyer of Tyson - if he was that invincible he wouldn't have broken his hand clean on Mitch Green's coked up head.

Do some reseach will ya - look up any of the Thai vesus boxing bouts, talk to some Thai's and see what they think of boxers. One plum and some knee's and Tyson's spitting teeth. That shortness you boast of - tailor made for knees.

Toney, Mercer and Mayorga "irrelevant in their own sport". :patsch MMA forum nominee for ESB quote of 2014.:deal

I imagine if Steve Zouski could hang around young Tyson for such a length of time, Jones could hang around young Tyson long enough to get him on the canvas.:think

If Mike is allowed to bite and headbutt, he wins, otherwise Jones likely.

The poll tells me that esb has no clue about this subject.

Or that it is full of trolls.

    Pretty sure trolls.

I'd favor Tyson although Jones has more tools. I just think Tyson smothers and outspeeds Jones and KO's him quickly. If it's a long grind em out type of fight Tyson gets destroyed, Jones has too many tools. The closest we will ever get to a Tyson vs Jones may be, Jones vs. Johnson.

In an MMA match, as the title says, Jones wins easily unless he's foolish enough to stand toe to toe with Tyson using only his fists. Jones is elite in MMA= tyson loses an mma match quickly. On the flipside, Jones would get mauled in a boxing match by an experienced journeyman.....Tyson brutally and easily beats him inside a boxing ring. These crossover fantasy matchups usually fail to recognize the massive differences in the two sports. NO ONE in mma is a good BOXER capable of doing anything remotely notable as a pro. And NO boxer could crossover and be elite without years of training the multiple disciplines

It boils down to whether or not Jones can get Tyson on the ground before he eats a punch. If he can, he wins, if he can't he gets KTFO. Either way I don't see this fight lasting any longer than a minute or two.
