It's really hard to know with how inactive both guys have been. If this was the Stipe that beat Cormier in the 2nd fight, I would have picked him handily over Jones. The biggest weakness of Jon Jones' skillset has always been his boxing defense. We've seen that with his fights with Gustafsson and Reyes. While Stipe might not have the lateral footwork that Gustafsson showed in his first fight with Jones, he has a hell of a lot more power. And I think it would be difficult for Jones to consistently take down Stipe and keep him there to do some work. That would expend a ton of energy, and Stipe would eventually beat him down. Too much firepower. That being said, this fight is happening years after it should have been. Stipe went through a brutal trilogy with Cormier and then a devastating knockout by Ngannou. He's clearly very shopworn by this point. But he's also had a lot of time to give his brain a rest. And Jones has been almost just as inactive, minus the Gane fight which he did look good in. So, I don't know. This fight is a big unknown to me. I think you would probably have to favor Jones, but I assume it's close to a 50/50 fight at this point.
This is one of those 50/50 predictions that end up being one-sided. The only reason it's hard to pick is both are so inactive we have no idea what their current skillset looks like. Stipe looked declined back in 2020 against DC 3, I can't imagine he's any better, but Jon also didn't look insanely sharp on the feet against Gane (as long as the fight lasted). Aspinall beats both anyway
Jones looks really, really slow in training. But he has the experience and ground game that will likely seal the deal. But if this fight is them standing and striking then I think it will be a very close fight.
He's come in lighter based on his recent media day photos; his mid-section looks more defined, I assume he's cut for this camp knowing he came in way too heavy. This could be a Nate Diaz v Tony Ferguson type of fight
I've never liked Jon Jones all that much, he's a good fighter but he's not a good person. Dude was foul for not shaking Miocic' Hand at the faceoff earlier today,. I hope Stipe can pull it off and somehow knock Jones out. This content is protected
Jon Jones bringing in a 19 fight win streak, hopefully Miocic can end the streak tonite. Jones needs to be humbled.
Stipe seems shopworn to me. He's not speaking particularly well. I bet on Jones to stop him. Hope I'm wrong.
