Jon Kays vs. Liam Walsh - Commonwealth Super Featherweight Championship
    By Jamie Albrecht

Jon “2 Smokes” Kays will be looking to emulate last year’s International Masters title success when he faces the heavily favoured Commonwealth Super-Featherweight titlist Liam Walsh at Wigan’s Robin Park Arena on Saturday 19th March.
Liam Walsh presents an apparently huge challenge to Kays. Having scored seven of his ten career victories by knockout, it would be understandable for Kays to proceed into battle with caution in relation to this particular proposition. The reality however is far from the perception, as Kays himself showed. “I would never have taken this fight if I didn’t truly believe I could win...training has gone really well, and although a lot of people think I’m up against it, I’m 100% confident that I’m going to come through and win the belt”. “If he wants to stand in the centre of the ring and fight it out, I’m ready”.” I’ve got total faith in my strategy and I feel I will wear him down in the later rounds”.

The Ashton man pointed towards his greater degree of in-ring experience as a factor to be used to his advantage. “ I had a very good career as an amateur, winning fifty out of seventy-five fights against some of the top fighters in the country at the time, I feel that I can use such a background on Saturday night...A lot of people will think that as this is only my second time on SKY sports, I might freeze in front of the cameras, but what a lot of people don’t realise is that I have fought most of my career in front of (Manchester broadcaster) the channel M cameras, so the spotlight is no big problem for me”.

The evening also sees the return of the undefeated Boltonian Welter-Weight Rick Godding, who fights Wales’ Barrie Jones in an eight rounder. Liverpool VIP starlets Stephen Harkin, Stephen Jennings, Kevin Satchell and Ryan Farrag will also feature along with debutants DT Price, James Burke and Mark Evans. Leyland’s Chris Johnson will also see action for the first time since beating William Warburton for the Central Area Welterweight crown and local Wigan Heavyweight Rob Beech completes the 11 fight bill.

TICKETS FOR THE “ROBIN PARK WARRIORS” BILL ARE PRICED AT £30.00 GENERAL ADMISSION AND £50.00 RINGSIDE. DOORS OPEN: 5.30 PM. BOXING COMMENCES AT 6.00PM
