Thaxton faces Melero for the vacant EBU European Lightweight Title tomorrow Saturday 4th October - will be shown live on ITV4.

Thaxton hasn't looked at his best in recent performances - was outclassed by Yuri Romanov and never really got into the fight before the cuts prevented him from continuing. Although Thaxton won the fight before that against Dave Stewart it was a close affair before the stoppage.

The spaniard Melero has, on paper at least, an impressive record of 36 wins out of 37 fights - his only loss coming against Yuri Romanov. He has also won away from home before.

Thaxton does have home advantage and is reported to have had better preparation and quality sparring (including Junior Witter) for this fight. Hopefully this will result in an improved performance and win.

There hasn't been much discussion about this fight on here so would be interested in your thoughts on this one guys....

I felt Thaxton was getting into the fight against Romanov slowly, but wasn't getting into it quick enough to win.

I think Jon knows that this is absolutely his last chance - he has been in this situation before and emerged victorious against Lee Meager, I think he will do so again.

Melero by all accounts is a seriously good fighter... Thaxton is on the slide now.... Hope he wins to set up a match with Murray/Mcallister.

I think Thaxton would beat McAllister, who is all talk and no trousers.

Murray hadn't impressed me in the slightest having struggled with a few journeymen, but put Meager away pretty smartly to win the British title.

That would be a 50-50 encounter, one slipping slightly, the other on the ascendency.

Whether Thaxton captures the European Title or not we may still see him try to reclaim the British Title given he vacated and didn't lose it in the ring.

hopefully he can avoid getting cut early. he can't have more than a couple of fights left in him after this (not at this level anyway)

This should be one ******* of a fight. Two very good pro's. Malero's record looks **** weak but he has got himself in the right position and has abit of talent. I still think Thaxton will edge it.

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot it was on telly! My freeview's a bit patchy so I may have to watch it from the ITV website.

I havn't seen Jon's opponent before, but it sounds like a tough fight. They always seem to be tough for the European title. Jon deserves a bit of success though, so I'll be cheering him on.
