The AA-Taylor fight wasn't to bad but yeah over all both fights weren't great but i think this was mainly down to bad style match ups.

    Froch-Kessler should be a stormer.

Like everything, those who make it sound easy usually have years of experience. Darke and Rawling have been doing this for the top side of 20 years. Jim Watt even longer. Duke has years of radio before 4/5 years on tv. Likewise Glenn and Richie. It was Jonno's first bash and I would suggest most supposed experts on this site would do no better and many would be very much worse. He was doing his best, so give him a break. Likewise, slaughtering Buncey because he said he thought Froch won is just stupid. The sport is about opinions. He was at the back of the hall, and saw it differently to those at ringside. He has a right to say what he thought. He calls it as he see it and, like Jonno, does his best to entertain. And let's not forget one of the judges agreed with him. After the boxing famine post Setanta, unnecessary criticism of Prime is just stupid.

he is a pretty good analyst just didnt look good tonight. i mean rawling treated him like an ex fighter where as thaxton considered himself a commentator. and rawling talkign about his fights and stuff. to me it was clear thaxton didnt find it appropriate tried to talk about the figth at hand.

also the frok VS frosch had me creasing. both kept calling him both MAD LOLS

i agree with the bunce comment...and while i thought dirrell won, i agree because the handful of people i have heard from who were there in the audience all thought froch one....and i have been at fights where when i look back on tv look so much different.

i disagree with the thaxton point....i understand that others have lots of expierence and it was his first run out....but...if i went to a restaurant and got shite food that i paid a lot for, i wouldnt accept that 'it was a new chef, he hadnt done it before...it was his first time'....i'm sure there could have been a training regieme that new commentators could go through...or pass an audition or test or something....you mey reply that he wasnt that bad...i would respond that on a ppv event of that stature he needed to be an awful lot better than that to give value to paying customers...good commentry is an awful important part of a big fight on tv.

that is a fair point doug. he was effectively learning on air, which is not really fair on him, and your chef analogy is a good one. Prime's problem might have been that they wanted to sound different. My hunch is that Richie Woodhall would have been there if he had been available. But my point is that Jonno is an honest lad who was doing his best. If that wasn't enough for the audience, then the criticism should really be levelled at those who put him there in the first place. My personal thought was that he tended to agree with what was being said instead of giving his own expertise. People used to say exactly the same about McCrory when he was on the road with Ian Darke, but there are plenty who watch Sky who think Glenn did a better job that Jim Watts. So it's subjective.
On another tack, the Rosenthal/Bunce combination was a good listen and the programme was pretty decent overall. Shame about the fight.

Ok, that was a bit harsh, they didnt have egg over their faces. But just because US TV called it in favour of Dirrel doesnt mean a jot in my book.

They (US TV commentary teams) have got some big decisions wrong in the past, I can think of Mosley v De la Hoya II as a prime example when HBO got that one wrong and were incorrectly 'outraged' at the end of the fight when the verdict went to Mosley. This was recalled in Budd Schulberg's book - Ringside. Budd made great points about the reliance on the computer stats to back up your scoring of a round, when in fact many of the shots were ineffective and not landing. Also, the absence of commentary which the other guy (Mosely) was landing good shots, but exaggerated praise for De la Hoya scores, set a theme and story for the whole fight.

Interestingly, a pundit that was highly praised by Schulberg for calling the Mosley fight accurately was 'the clear-eyed Steve Bunce'. Praise of that kind from a legend like Schulburg is indeed a reference. Hence, some of the **** that I have read on one or two sites about Buncey's credibility etc and his scoring of the Froch-Dirrel fight is quite frankly ridiculous.

Nice one gasman. The sport - like all the rest - is about opinions. That's why we waste our time kicking ideas around here, and Buncey is never short of an opinion. Sometimes he goes a step too far, in fact a few steps too far, for some but he is always somebody who provokes a reaction. He is also passionate about his boxing, which shines through. He, Jim Rosenthal, John Rawling, Ian Darke, Jim Watt, Glenn McCrory, Duke McKenzie, Barry McGuigan et al have dedicated their lives to broadcasting on the sport we love. Unlike some who post on here, I believe British broadcasts compare very favourably with those in the US. Do we really put HBOs team up as one we would want to hear? Not for me thank you.

I love Schulberg's writings. In a way, he was somebody who had a bit of Bunce in him. The facts were sometimes cloudy, and the language was sometimes ott, but he knew a good story.

Mate you are the most pessimistic poster I've read for a while, try saying something nice, first start off by saying one thing nice a day then two etc etc. Before you know it you'll realise being nice is addictive, turn that frown upside down!!!!:good:good
