So there wasn't a version of Hopkins in between the '94 version and '08 version? '99-01 Hopkins was peak hopkins. The fact that Hopkins past his prime dominated Kelly Pavlik has nothing to do with it. He would have done an even bigger demolishion job at 160 in his prime [99-01]

Given I'm from the UK and have been watching Calzaghe for a number of years and have since about 17-18 of his fights and over 150 rounds of him in action, I think it's safe to say I do know what I'm commenting on.

I've heard people call Calzaghe's prime as before 2005-2007, but I don't think it is. The 2002 version still had damaged hands, yet wasn't as smart or as proven at the top level as he'd never had a 'top' win up to the period I quoted. The version without truly damaged hands would have been back before the turn of the Millenium, where he clearly was pre-prime against the likes of past-prime Eubank.

Styles has nothing to do with it. Yes I would argue that somebody who relies more on speed and energy would be more likely to be past there prime at 34 than somebody who doesn't, but this so-called 'prime' Hopkins from 07-08 was 42-43 years old for **** sake. How was he closer to his prime than Calzaghe? Winky wasn't a top win, Tarver and Pavlik are amongst them, but that's a testament to how good he is even past-prime, not when his prime was. Calzaghe still beat a very good fighter in 08 - just about beat him - yet he'd be facing a great fighter from 01, and would lose comfortably.

They weighed in both under 180. So 4½ against a former super-middleweight like Calzaghe contributed to Green doing in 1 what Calzaghe couldn't do in 12 did it? So what, was Jones Jr prime now aswell? He'd already been sparked by Tarver, Johnson, struggled badly with C+ level Hanshaw etc. He was clearly, clearly shot.
