I like JOnes, but I don't buy the weight loss excuse. Here's my reason... HE WON! He won the 1st fight against Tarver. The one where he initially had to lose the weight. The next two fight should have given him more time to adjust. The weight might have affected Jones, but it's no excuse for the losses. Remember... HE WON. He won.
His stamina hasn't looked good since he moved back down from heavyweight. He layed on the ropes for probably about 2/3 of the first fight against Tarver. that was evidence enough that he was too gassed and his stamina and punching power hasn't been the same either since. His speed and reflexes are not what they used to be as a result of just getting old. that and the combination of his diminished strength and stamina makes me believe that he should retire.
Roy should fight Clinton Woods like he mentioned before the Omar fight. Let Johnson get his rematch against Dawson and if Glenn pulls the upset Roy could get his title shot.
His huggers initially said it was the weight that he did not look impressive against Tarver the 1st time. Then it was just a lucky punch when he got koed by Raever in the rematch. Then he has no motivation in the Johnson fight. And in the 3rd Tarver fight, he intentionally let himself lose so his dad will not get credit. Amazing really.
It was a combination of different things. His loss of muscle mass was a big problem, as evident in the 1st fight with Tarver. He went to the ropes way too much, was tired at points, and couldn't consistently move around like he could. In the 2nd fight he got caught. He was already declining, his reflexes were not as they once were and Tarver KFTO Jones. Jones tried to do what he did in his prime and break the technical rules of boxing, by throwing a left hook from wayyyy outside and got caught. The Johnson fight, he didn't have any motivation. You could see it. And he also didn't have any more confidence, it was all gone after Tarver KO'd him. He just got his ass beat for 9 rounds and got hit in the temple and when his head hit the canvas it bounced off of it hard. That was bad. The 3rd Tarver fight, again, Jones is shot mentally, physically doesn't have the reflexes and legs like he used to. He wasn't ever going to beat Tarver at this point, because of his mental being as scattered as it is.
I think Jones needs some roids? He should retire or he should fight Johnson, Dawson is afraid of Johnson so let Jones fight him.
And then after all that, someone suddenly decides, "Oh! I know! He's been weight drained all this time!" atsch :rofl Glad to see someone else remembers the lengthy Chain of Excuses! :good
Evidence??? How do you know this?? he tested positive for one fight, and so did the other fighter for the same substance. Unless I completely missed something, this is just your speculation
He lost his confidence...atsch he went to the ropes too much...atsch that is absolutely to be taken against him. That is not even an excuse at all, let alone a good excuse. You could have just cut the chase and said amen to my post
Ask Chris Byrd wether weight loss effected him, I think Jones is now walking around 185 instead of 200+ when he fought RUIZ. Also losing it at 35 doesnt help, different to losing it at 25 That helps alot. Ask Manny Pacman, he was at FLYWEIGHT and couldnt take a punch from a flyweight
It is no coincidence that when he started getting hit on that brittle Glass Jaw he started getting brutally knocked out. As someone already said he won the first tarver fight and had PLENTY of time after that for his body to adjust to the weight but he get spark knocked out twice. It is all just excuses for that Glass Jaw.
He got old overnight the weight was probably a factor yeah but if anyone can watch roy jones fights pre and post ruiz and tell me thats the same fighter, then their opinion is worthless to me
