http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/new...at-Heavyweight-in-2012-Dana--Lorenzo-said-no/ From his interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour yesterday:
I saw Helwani announce this on UFC Tonight. If he gets past Evans and Hendo.. Let him do whatever the **** he wants.. When he wants. It doesn't matter though.. He could be making his HW debut the first week of the new year.
Absolutely. I don't like how Dana/Lorenzo have control over which weight a fighter fights at. It should be entirely up to the fighter.
Fighters generally have a lot of leeway in choosing what division to fight in as long as they can make the weight. I think that they're putting a leash on Jones because they have a vested interest in building him up as a new poster boy for the brand. With that said, I don't see the issue with letting him move up to fight a lower ranked HW like Silva did when he fought at 205. Outside of the top 5-6 guys, HW is a weak division. I'd favor the likes of JDS, Cain, Overeem and Barnett over Jones, but he could definitely beat guys in the bottom half of the top 10/15.
TBH...Call me crazy but I see Overeem VS Jones finishing within 15 sec...Jones will pull some kind of flying knee or some crazy **** Overeem won't even see it coming and its good night Irene !
The rumour is that the UFC is so keen for Jones not move up that they're willing to offer him Silva should Anderson beat Chael.
