Roy Jone's Great Record was cemented by his defeat of the so called great James Tony who's record prior to that fight consisted of drawing with Sanderline Williams (who? exactly... he had been beaten 11 times), he also beat Michael Nunn who had beaten a washed up Donald Curry. Tony also beat McCullum who struggled to a split decision over Herol Graham who lost to Charles Brewer who got beat by Joe Calzaghe. So why was James Tony so great? His record don't stack up.......

Roy Jones also beat an unproven Hopkins (look at the Hopkins 22/1 record prior to the Jones Fight and let me now who he beat). His record at the time was no different to a Jeff Lacey.

Hopkins next "known name" fight was 4 years later against Glen Johnson who he beat (Impressive but Johnson later lost to Omar Sheika) Can you guess who Omar Sheika got beat by in is very next fight - Yes that is correct Joe Calzaghe.

Hopkins in his prime later lost to Jermain Taylor (check his record out prior to that fight and tell me which great fighters he had beaten...) Taylor then drew with the great Winky Wright. We know what later happened to Taylor when he thought the next reincarnation of Jeff Lacy (Young Kelly).

Anyway the great Winky Wright made his reputation by twice beating Shane Mosely who lost to Vernon Forrest who got beat by Vince Philips who got beat by Ricky Hatton (140Ib fighter).

Now the final killer for me is this amazing fact. Calzaghe beat Robin Reid who beat Vasques who beat Winky Wright who beat Shane Mosely who beat de la hoy who lost to Trinidad who lost to Hopkins who lost to Joe Calzaghe.

    Funny That........

The point is Calzaghe has a line through various fighters to both Jones and Hopkins in their Primes that suggests his record is at least on a par. Now he may have beaten them late in all fighters careers but there is nothing to suggest in all fighters records that the result would have been any different at any other time.

I have no idea who would have won but I do know from digging into the fight records of Hopkins and Jones and scratching a little they are no better than that of Joe Calzaghe.

  4. WAtching Calzaghe beat the living **** out of Roy Jones and that dweeb, Lacy, was a gift:good..
Watching Jones get the **** kicked out of him with his eye bleeding all over the place was priceless...
Calzaghe no doubt a 1st ballot HOF..

  5. Yeh he beat a washed up Jones Jr..... But Roy will always been known as the much better boxer any day of the week... Just like Rockys win over Louis

you're very naaive if you think these sorts of 'join the dots arguments' are a reflection of anything legitimate. you can twist this a thousand ways to make it look impressive for a thousand fighters - but it's who fought who and when they did it that counts.

otherwise i might as well say...

mayorga beat forrest twice who beat mosley twice who beat oscar twice who beat the crap out of mayorga..

IF you really have faith in calzaghe and his status then you should have answered posts directly, especially mine, relating to this.

fumbling in the dark working around the facts isn't going to help your cause.

  7.
Jones jr washed up?? he's only 2 older than Calzaghe, Jones born 1969 -Cali born 1971 WTF?? HOW CAN JONES BE KNOWN AS THE BETTER BOXER WHEN CALI BEAT HIS ASS??
Cali had obviously better genetics, and fighting ability, he was never knocked the **** out like jones was against, tarver-johnson:deal
Jones looked like a coward in the final rounds against Cali- please don't hit me  he looked scared out of his mind, Calzaghe is a psycho in the ring and Jones looked really scared, like a twat..
