Jones never had a glass jaw. You don't go from being hit flush by Ruiz and still standing to being hit by one shot by Tarver and getting up at 9 and a 1/2 (remember Jones lost 25 lbs before the Tarver fight) to being ko'd by Johnson who didn't have true power and ko'd Jones with a head shot. Losing all that weight told fans what we needed to know. The weight loss affected him. I believe Jones when he said that his body felt dead after round 8 of the Johnson fight. Since coming down in weight at age 35, Superman had his kryptonite.
well i know roy is motivated by the hopkins pavlik fight even more then he was before, but roy is not hopkins and joe damn sure aint kelly.styles make fights right, well back in the day i feel roy would have creamed joe inside 12 rds. looking at jones last few fights, i think joe will literally slap his way to ud.now if roy can pull out one more great fight he might pull of the up set.he knows hes the underdog in this fight and he just seen what bhop did so i think he will try his very best to beat joe. right now im rooting for jones but i think joe will beat him, now give me a chance to watch the 24/7 show between the 2 guys so i can see how rjj is training and i want to see what type of shape he is in, afte that i might change my mind. i see the fight good for about 6 or 7 rds but i think joe will out workhim, right now i give roy a punchers chance to beat joe but thats about it.
Leaning towards RJJ in all honesty. I wouldn't be shocked if Jones wins. I have not seen too many fighters work Calzaghe's body, but that's what I think Jone's will do. It will be Jones' body work and Calzaghe's susceptibility to the lead right hand. I actually think Calzaghe (if he chooses to stick with it) could win the jabbing contest, but Jones' counter-punching (especially the right hand down the pike) over all speed and body punches will lead him to victory, imo, via either TKO ref stoppage or UD. I could envision Calzaghe winning against Kessler no problem, and against Hopkins, but I can't against RJJ......even this RJJ. He still has the speed and power to trouble Calzaghe greatly, and I think he will, especially early on in the fight. Calzaghe's best chance at winning is in the later rounds- wearing RJJ down en route to a decision.
The lasting image of this fight will be Roy laying against the ropes getting slapped left and right by Calzaghe
I'm taking Jones by UD if I can get 5-1 odds. Jones will be able to potshot Calzaghe to a UD. 200 bones to win a grand.
Hanshaw is a nobody with a very suspect chin. Dirrell knocked him TFO and Dirrell isn't that big of a puncher
A few comments if I may: Since when is John Ruiz a power puncher? Who has Ruiz ever KOed? Why did Roy handpick John Ruiz? Maybe because he had not had a stoppage win in over 3 years before the fight? Jones did get up against Tarver then he proceeded to stumble across the ring and fall into the ropes he was on ***** street. Jones had how long to get readjusted in weight from the time of the Ruiz fight and the Johnson fight?
If Jones lets his hands go he beats anyone. Jones still has incredibly fast hands and still has pop left his combo of speed and power is great whenever he lets his hands go vs anyone even now his opponets just cover up in a shell and admire because noboddy has any defense for it. I honestly dont see Joe Calzaghe being the one guy out of 50 or so who has some great answer for it. When they do exchange Jones punches will impress the judges much more because they will be loud and clean unlike Calzaghes slaps it was the same way in the Bernard fight just RJJ needs to work more then Bernard did and it shouldnt be a big problem. Calzaghe wont do awhole lot of anything unless he gets Roy to the ropes and now Roy seems to have reinvented himself to a degree with that high guard style he should be ok. This fight was resemble Jones-Tarver 1 IMO.
