Just now on ESPN Jones was asked why this fight never happened when he was in his prime and Jones stated that Joe had a promoter who didnt want the fight to happen, he said that at that time Joe had to come here and fight and risk losing thus losing status in the UK which would have caused him to have to fight top level guys to prove that he belonged, and risk losing another fight, and that wasnt a chance that Warren was willing to take.

Check ESPN they should have the video loaded on thier website soon.:good

Wow, that's even more credible than if Calzaghe himself had said it!!! :thumbsup

Here is the thing, that was the rumor years ago, it was being said by people outside of the Jones camp that Jones had offered Joe fights and it was rejected...The point of the thread is that there are many of YOU that claimed to this day that it never happened dispite the FACTS that Warren said the offer came in and it was for peanuts and DiBella stated that he could get the fight made.

My thinking is Joe didnt want the fight, I think that he knew that he would lose, and waited around for Jones to get old, then he made his move. Jones who is shot now, isnt going to beat Joe at this point but in the late 1990's he would have beat the **** out of Joe.

That contradicts what Roy said in an earlier interview.

Words to the effect that the risk/reward ratio wasn't good.

IMO, Roy would have won the fight anytime up to Ruiz.

    But he wasn't certain.

    :huh

Dude we know that Jones didnt fight Collins and the reason was because at that time Collins was really a nobody...Its really alot like Joe fighting Jones now...Not many would have said much about Joe fighting Dawson, Pavlik, Bute or even a rematch with Kessler instead of Jones, likewise not many of us have much to say about Jones not fighting Collins at those times. Roy was busy beatting two of the three fighters that beat Collins:hey

Nobody knew who Calzaghe really was in the late 90s anyway. He has only really became famous late on in his career, much like Hopkins did.

Roy Jones wouldve beaten Joe in the 90s.

That isnt true...Its an excuse of those of you that know that the offer was made...I recall Sean saying that Joe wasnt ready for that fight then, another excuse...

and yes Im sure that Jones would have not only beat Joe back then, but he would have knocked him out, in fact I think that its his only shot of winning now.

There you go calling rumours FACTS again

Apart from your reliance on rumours and people other than Calzaghe and his camp saying these things, you have nothing.

You do realise Calzaghe had only had 7 pro fights by the time Jones had moved out of SMW, don't you?
