Jones' workouts are deceptive, he looks great hitting the pads, but terrible in the ring. Why? his legs are gone. He has the legs of a 65 year old woman. He can't move. If you stand in front of him and maintain a low output, he'll pot shot you to death. Constructing a gameplan to fight Jones tehse days is so easy I could sell myself as a pro trainer. He's the best pad-hitter in the world today, but a lousy boxer, and Hop should eat him up. That said, Im watching it. Pride alone could bring something back from Roy, and produce a night of excitement, if not skill.
I'm ordering it. I expect Jones to look better than he has in years. I don't think he'll win but I think many will be surprised by his effort and they way he looks, just for this fight, years younger.
His padhitting isn't looking that great either. Have to wonder how his sparring is going, or if there is any.
This fight will do very little business amongst casual fans. I fully expect to see a half full Mandalay Bay come Sat night. **** undercard as well.
I don't think so. Sure these guys are fukin old, but who wouldn't want to see 2 legends who hate each other go at it. In a way, it's almost more interesting when you consider how shot Roy is, and could get seriously hurt, but also the chance that Roy could look good because he is motivated for this fight unlike any other he's had in the past 5 years. There's so many unknown variables for this fight. And how will Hopkins look? Maybe he will finally look old. Will he KO Roy in one round? Or will he carry him and torture him? And like I said, there is a chance this is a great fight because the chemistry between the two is unquestionable. Obviously this fight is way too late, but there's not much else going on saturday night and I'm interested to see this freak show. lol We may just be surprised.
That's how I see it. From a skill perspective, this is a blowout. It's the chemistry and history between the two that makes it compelling viewing. Just seeing them in the ring together brings so much energy and anticipation, the event - if not the fight - has great potential for excitement. Roy will be the massive crowd favorite, and we know he'll pull off some flashy - if ineffective - combos, which should get them roaring. Plus he will be shaken at least once, giving drama for a potential KO. This fight might play out like Tarver-Jones III, though the history between the two makes it more interesting. I just hope it's not a sad, drawn-out beating. Thankfully Roy's team knows he's at the end and I believe would stop it if it became too painful.
