Yes, objects in a photograph can be measured if you have something in the same photo of which the exact dimensions are known, however, depth of field, perspective etc. must be taken into account before ensuring the object used as a measure can be relied upon.

In the case of Mosely vs Margarito, the below photo of the inserts found by Nazeem Richardson when inspecting Margarito's handwraps were placed in a sealed bag and photographed from a close distance on a flat surface with a ruler clearly defining dimensions placed alongside it. This photo was used as evidence in the investigation into the allegations made by Mosely's solicitor towards Margarito.

See how the bag is clearly sealed and marked? See how clearly the measurement gradients can be seen?

Now look at the photo of Danny Green with his wife and 3 strips of adhesive plaster stuck to the wall behind them - can you tell exactly how far Green and his wife are from the wall? Can you tell exactly how far the wall is from the camera? Can you see how the wall diminishes in size as it meets the other wall in the corner? This is known as a vanishing point, and the dimensions of any objects affected by such cannot be established from a photo.

Pray do tell, how YOU would go about establishing the exact dimensions of the adhesive tape stuck to the wall? But before you do, answer these questions:

1. Do you see any object in that photo that you know the exact dimensions of?

2. If you do, is the object in a relevant position to the adhesive strips in order to be able to accurately compare it to gauge the exact dimensions of the adhesive strips?

...and here's the killer question:

3. Do you see anything in that photo that could be used as evidence that Green actually used the adhesive strips stuck to the wall in wrapping his hands?

If you possessed any reading comprehension skills, you would realise it doesn't matter whether you can or can't estimate what the width of the strips on the wall are, simply because, you have no link to prove they are the same adhesive strips used on Green's hands, either in that very same picture or any other you may care to post.
