I hate this revisionist history about Jones Jr's superstar status. Fact is HBO lost money on every Jones fight at that time because of their idiotic $5 mill guarantee. Jones PPV number at that number were between 100-150k. While Jones was a super talent and was being paid well he was not a big draw. A bigger draw than Hopkins but not by as much as many would like to think and Hopkins had just beaten Tito which had sold about 450k ppv buys.

To also suggest 40% against Jones at that time would have been less than the $7 mill guarantee (not including ppv share) he got for fighting De La Hoya is just plainly wrong. Even if the Hopkins/Jones Jr at that time had done as much as Hopkins/Tito a 40% share would have been less than he got for fighting De la hoya. Personally I think it would have done less as Jones simply did not have the fanbase that Tito had.

Fact is, it's a tragedy that the fight never happened then but both were to blame. Jones had beaten Hopkins before and had nothing to prove, while Hopkins had many more options available to him to earn more money with less risk.

Hes got a point its convinent this fight gets made now. When RJJ lost to Tarver and Johnson theres an excuse like the weight draining or Roy not getting motivated for them fights. Well Danny Green nearly kills him in 1 round and hes jumping all over the fight. I seen a espn interview where Hopkins admitted Roy has no legs and thats why he wins this fight. Bernard only takes hes sure he can win the guy always has a plan.

The fight was already agreed before Jones got KO'ed by Green so your point is invalid. But your right in the summation that Hopkins knows for sure he can win this fight but anyone thats seen them both fight in recent years new that was the case. Jones has been a shadow of his former self ever since Tarver KO'ed him.

No, the fight was agreed upon IF Jones beat Green, the original contract was negated after Roy was knocked out.

None of that matters, what matters is that he took less than 40 % to fight others yet he asked for 50% against someone who was a bigger name and had already beat him.

It being agreed to means little to me because it was never signed considering they "agreed" to fight once every 2 weeks from 2001 up til lnow.

I don't see the point you're trying to make. Hopkins had agreed to fight Jones if Jones had won meaning the fight was already agreed, the fact Jones was even more shot than he and his handlers thought doesn't invalite my claim. Hopkins was happy to fight Jones, Jones being KO'ed in 1 round had nothing to do with his decision to make the fight happen as an agreement was already in place. :huh

:huh I don't see the point your making. You seem to be berating Hopkins for declining a tougher fight for a larger % from a smaller overall pot than taking a smaller % from a much larger pot against an easier opponent. Jones has always talked about risk/reward and Hopkins simply did the same. I'd happily agree to 30% of $40 mill over 40% of $20 mill.

Don't get me wrong I wish Hopkins had agreed to 40% but with hindsight business wise he made the right decision.

While the fight has been talked about for years they have never really agreed to fight prior to recent events. Last time their were any serious negoiations was way back in 2002.

Some idiots on this board continue to claim that Jones ducked Hopkins in 02 by pricing himself out of the fight when it was really the other way around.

Bull ****, the only one who is wrong here is you dumbass. Hopkins was less established, a smaller draw AND he had already been beaten by Jones, yet YOU claim he still deserved 50% in 02 ....:patsch
