I see a lot of people giving Jones a chance but I don't see the logic behind it, after watching Jones/Hanshaw and Jones/Ajamu. I admit, I got caught up in the hype and believed that Jones could put up a good fight after the Tito fight. But how can anyone watch Jones against the Hanshaw, and think he has a chance against Calzaghe? The only fight where Jones has looked good enough to beat Calzaghe was against Tito, who could never be a good fighter at 170lbs and is more shot than Jones is. Hardly a reflection that this could be a close fight.

Calzaghe is past his best too. But he still has a lot more left in the tank than Jones does. Jones was already shot two years before Calzaghe put in the performance of his career. And even though Calzaghe is fading, he has been able to revise his style which ensures he will end up like Hopkins. Well past his physical prime, but fighting a style which can work around those deficiencies.

Jones has little chance in this one. He doesn't have the legs or the workrate to beat this version of Calzaghe. Expect a beatdown similar to Sugar Ray Robinson/Henry Armstrong. Joe won't go for the kill in this one, but he will dominate his man for 12 rounds.

I love how fans always say that Calzaghe fights down to his competition, but then discredits Jones looking good against Tito because Tito didn't offer much competition.

    exactly.

i'm a calzaghe fan and i don't care for this fight. but the same fans bigging RJJ up and predicting that he shall beat joe will be the first to scream that a prime RJJ would have destroyed calzaghe once the fight is finished.

Couldn't agree more. Jones has done nothing to merit this fight. It is, as Antonio Tarver said, "Celebrity Boxing". Same as Oscar v Pac. I would so much rather have seen Calzaghe v Dawson or someone else, and Pac v JMM III than these two shams. "Celebrity Boxing". We should not encourage it or support it. It's a move towards WWE and away from the Noble Art.

That is an undeniable fact. It matters not what happens next saturday, that will never change. A prime Roy Jones would have absolutely destroyed Joe Calzaghe :deal

yes prime RJJ would have been way too much for joe even at his best. but that has nothing to do with the point i am making.

Calzaghe has on defense, is no where near the speed of a prime Jones, not nearly as strong as him, much worse balance and ring generalship and doesn't have the power to hurt him. How does he beat him?????

RJJ vs tito was a joke from the second it was announced, and the fact that tito was still standing at the end of the fight even though it was a former welterweight champ vs a former heavyweight champ, shows how shot RJJ is.

it was a nice match to watch but was an illussion.

One Winner here - Joe Calzaghe.

lol what makes you think Joe would've been throwing alot of punches against a prime Jones? He would cut his output at least half, look at what Hopkins' counterpunching did to him. Now imagine a guy that is not only faster than him, but actaully has power in all of his punches. Jones would be beating him to the punch all night long.

Bernard Hopkins and James Toney are two of the best fighters of their GENERATION and Jones dominated both of them in their prime. Was never in danger of losing or even lost control of the fight for a round. Let that sink in :deal

This is almost reaching Sam Peter vs Vitali Klitschko levels when the Peter-Ites were trying to tell everyone why Peter would win.

Let me spell it out for you:

    Jones has a Glass Jaw

He is afraid to get hit

He is afraid to let his his hands go for fear of getting countered and knocked out.

It is all mental with Roy and that is not easily fixed it almost never is.

Roy will get embarrassed in this fight and i would not be surprised to see him get (T)KOed.

Ok he has some defense obviously. But if you put him in with a Prime Jones, his defense will be non-existent.
