Anyone who really thinks Joe stood a chance should stop watching boxing. Its crazy how obsessed joe's fans are over him. Let the guy retire with his inflated sense of self worth already. But I guess by constantly bring up his name and talking crazy **** think you can add to his legacy. Unfortunately, if he did not prove it in the ring and did not impress everyone with his ***** slapping style it is to late!

A fight between the two in their primes would break a lot of hearts because RJJ would muder him . . . and this is coming from someone who always hated RJJ. But I never liked Bird, Jordan or Kobe in basketball But I have to recognize talent and RJJ had tons of it. A ***** slap would have little affect on superman because he could not even touch him!

Man this guy could have knocked out Big George Forman, right?! His arm punches where the most "hurtful" right!! It is guys like this that is totally ruining any credibility that Joe has.

exactly! there is slowly a shift in this thread with calzaghe fans becoming less and less reasonable and creating a fight with a prime joe vs a past prime jones given the traits they are attributing to rjj

:lol:come on man, be reasonable. i'll say calzaghe was easily the best super middle ever, just not head 2 head. i give him all the credit for being jones toughest fight at that weight but i don't see him winning. making it a fight of the year, back and forth, with constant readjustments by both. but NO ONE would dominate jones at 168, calzaghe is no different.

really? REALLY? come on big cat, let's compare resumes. as shitty as Jones' is he still takes a dump on calzaghe's. :!:

Joe called out nobody when it was reasonable. when he actually wanted to fight people he was a nobody. when he was a domestic draw, he didn't even want to fight glen johnson.

Joe has talent but his legacy is hardly mindblowing

I have no idea how it would turn out but it would be amazing to watch I'm sure. Neither guy ever fought anyone near their own level while they were in their primes, so we don't know how they would have responded to being forced to take their game to the next level.

Roy Jones would not have stopped Calzaghe, but I can see him dropping him with counters a few times as Joe flies in swinging.

Calzaghe could easily have done the same to Jones at that time, though. Power advantage obviously lies with Jones, but chin is way in Calzaghe's favor. I think this means that Calzaghe would play the role of the aggressive power puncher in the fight, because while Jones hits hard, Calzaghe can take the punches, whereas Jones might not be able to withstand Calzaghe's shots as well.

Workrate is obviously going to be in Calzaghe's favor, as Jones will be backing up looking to counter for most of the fight.

I think it would end up fairly even, with Jones stealing his share of rounds on clean counterpunching and Calzaghe taking his share on workrate and volume of punches landed. I really think it would go 12 rounds, and the winner would be the guy who dropped the other guy more often. This is a fight where both could go down. There's a possibility of Calzaghe stopping Jones, though, as Jones has been known to not recover after being tagged, whereas Calzaghe seems to recuperate quickly. My money would be on Calzaghe by early stoppage (can anyone else see Calzaghe bumrushing Jones and dropping him in one of the early rounds, then swarming him for a stoppage?), or a toss-up if it goes 12 rounds.

Ridiculous comparison. Prime Jones literally kille prime Slappy.

The Slappy fans have no argument whatsoever, just like Holmes fans have no argument about their boy beating prime Ali. A fair match would end up extremely badly for the Slappy one, most likely a TKO in the first 3 rounds. Of course we were robbed of ever knowing this due to Calzaghes monumental cowardice, same as with all his other big wins.

There is so much wrong with this post that I suspect you of being an idiot.

Fact is, we're talking about prime Calzaghe...back when he didn't slap and was knocking out practically everybody he fought.

And we weren't robbed of anything--by the time Calzaghe had his first title at 168, Jones was already fighting at 175. Jones was busy cleaning out the light heavyweight division, so he didn't want or need to fight Calzaghe. Calzaghe was trying to unify at supermiddle, so Jones wasn't on his radar either.

    You're awesome. :good

I can't believe people are stupid enough to compare Calzaghe's decline to Jones' decline. Jones never wrote a book talking about how shot Calzaghe was and how he would not fight a shell of a once great, only to fight him 4 years later for his fans to give him credit like it means something.

Calzaghe may not have been peak, but he still has 90 percent of his skills.... Roy on the other hand is not even half of what he was.

I love to how people talk like a prime Calzaghe was some kind of knockout artist... Please, that is just ridiculous.

Good post. It is becoming more and more evident that most of the guys who are deriding Jones in this thread never saw him fight in his prime.

TBH this thread seems to consist of mainly blind people, many calzaghe fans are admitting jones would win a competitive fight on points. But to suggest RJJ would KO calzaghe, especially in a few rounds is just plain stupid.

You got on one side the Roy nuthuggers that think he was invincible and then on the other side the people who are trying to be realistic... cracks me up
