"From what I heard it wasn't quite the same as my fight with Montell.

From what I heard Abraham hit the kid when he was clearly down. That's not what I did."

    Roy Jones Jr, March 2010

...Jones was also pummeled with illegally wrapped gloves...and that's why he lost! And it was an early stoppage!

They were similar. I can see why both fighters got overexcited and hit while their opponent was down.

They both should have been DQ'd but what they did was understandable.

That's the way I see it. When you're trying to take someone's head off, you can't always put your foot on the brakes, and sometimes don't even register when you should have. This kind of thing happens.

Exactly- and the right call was made in both circumstances. Dirrell got the win, and fortunately wasn't seriously hurt or concussed by the late shot. It's about the best resolution to an ugly ending like that.

While people may disagree with me here, I think the controversy will prove to be a boon as far as getting more hype for the tournament, which had been slowed by fight delays. If these guys rematch in the semis or finals, it's going to be crazy.

Roy got his redemption though. I think Round 1 Jones, in the Jones Griffin II fight was unstoppable lol.

Bullsh*t!!! Jones situation was way worse. He hit Griffin twice while he was down. Jones has really lost his mind in his older age. Maybe it is all of the knockouts that he has suffered. :nut

Yeah, RJJ is off his rocker. If he hit him once, like Arthur did that would have been one thing, but he hit Griffin with an uppercut and hook. Both were wrong, but for RJJ to say what he did is different is completely false.

    :huh

Boxing somebody from post to post is not "redemption" for... hitting them while they were down.

In my eyes Jones still went 50-0 before the Tarver KO.
