A couple of problems there: Jumping up in class from Hany Atiyo to Diablo = bad idea. Diablo may not have a belt anymore, so would Jones then be looking at Drozd?
There is no evidence he is punch drunk. He might be old and I agree he should retire but he's clearly not punch drunk. He's winning his fights and as long as he keeps winning the majority of his fights, and rises up in the ranking, why not? After he gets his title shot he should retire. He could get his title shot after this fight so it makes no sense why people think he should retire and not take a chance.
Why is it funny?? When you are the best fighter in the world, you call the shots, they come to you or screw off, there are always other options like moving up to HW and winning a world title. Now that Roy isn't the man, he travels, its the name of the game.
:roflatsch Ali fought all over the world and in several fighters home Country. Jones was a Glass Jawed cherrypicker who wasn't going to risk any big fights and robbed the fans.
I've got no problem with Roy continuing to fight, but he doesn't have any business facing a rugged, world-class opponent in an honest, unfixed fight at this stage.
Amazing post, what excellent unbiased input Rico.. You have really taken all the circumstances into consideration, and come up with a very valid comparrison in Ali/Jones, especially since you noted the traumatic experience both had being robbed of the highest amateur achievement..I have so say I am truly amazed.
Roy Jones got beaten up and dropped by Lhw late replacment feather fisted Glazewski last time when he was in Poland, he should be happy that the opponent he was supposed to fight went to jail bcs he would get knocked out. The moment that left hook from Wlodarczyk lands RJJ is getting carried out of the ring. Either way that fight aint happening, Wlodarczyk would rather go to Russia and fight Drozd or rematch Chakhkiev in a meaningfull fight.
Woah woah woah woah... I know you're not writing off Wlod vs. Drozd as most did for Wlod vs. Chakhiev, are you? Diablo FTW!
Writing him off? Nah, he is the champ and that is a pick'em. Drozd is the one being unjustly written off if Jones or Flores or the fans are looking ahead to Diablo's presumed next defense(s)
