He wasn't 38 when he first lost to Taylor - he was 40. Some of his best wins have been past 40 but your kidding yourself if you think that's his prime in terms of combination of physical ability and ring IQ. He hit his prime later then a lot of fighters but I'd say it was around his mid-thirties.
That doesnt mean he was out of his prime when he fought calzaghe, People can have a prime that lasts more than half a decade
Legacy: 1. Hopkins 2. Jones . . . . . 3. Calzaghe Prime-for-prime, head-to-head: 1. Jones 2. Hopkins . . . . . 3. Calzaghe
chin - calzaghe..hopkins................................................................................jones ability to fight in adversity - calzaghe......hopkins..............................................jones ability to adapt during a fight - calzaghe.......hopkins.........................................jones head to head - calzaghe..................................................................jones / hopkins
Calzaghe is far too much underrated, In their Primes Speed- Jones, Calzaghe > Hopkins Defence-(block,gaurds up)- Hopkins > Calzaghe > Jones Reflexes- Jones > Calzaghe, Hopkins Boxing Skills - Hopkins > Calzaghe > Jones Athleticism - Jones > Calzaghe > Hopkins Chin - Calzaghe, Hopkins > Jones Power - Jones > Hopkins, Calzaghe Stamina - Calzaghe > Jones, Hopkins Footwork - Calzaghe > Hopkins > Jones Pysical Strength - All Similar
After losing to Jones at the age of 28, Hopkins then went unbeaten for then next 12 years, but according to the experts on here this wasn't Hopkins prime No, according to these people Hopkins actually hit his prime when he hit his 40's and started losing fights for the first time in over a decade
Thats not what i'm saying, I never said his prime hit when he was in his 40's all i said was he was still in his prime upto the pavlik win after that he seems to be slowing down. He started losing because he started fighting better competition, not blown up Welterweights
Cause it was the first time he had stepped up higher than blown up WWs and guys with 10 losses on their record, Look at when Calzaghe stepped up? He dominated the young American, he dominated the young European, he dominated the older ATG American. Hopkins? Lost to the young American, lost to the near retiring European, had issues with the young Canadian, had issues with the older (decrepid, corpse) of RJJ
The same I don't know about that ..I beleive Calzaghe was dropped more times in his career yet Hopkins was down for the first time against Pascal ..And Jones had a great chin it kills me to hear such nonsense when he didn't get dropped until he killed his body ..
Hopkins was down twice before pascal fight (mercado or something like that) and he drew that fight aswell. Calzaghe dropped 4 times 2 huge punches got right back up and stopped the other guy, Hopkins flash KD and Jones's Forearm. And He didn't - ever- He Had Great Reflexes so never got tested.
