He defeated the guy who defeated the Undisputed Champion. So, yes, he was.

Calzaghe was the lineal champion, not the undisputed. Politics are a *****, but he wasn't undisputed any way you slice it.

Rest i can agree with, but what the ****; Calzaghe a third by far H2H, am guessing you have only watched about 4 fights of calzaghe. By the way joe Calzaghe was slowing down by the time he fought Lacy, believe or not he was faster and hit harder (less slaps) before.
All of you calzaghe haters are making me look like a Calzaghe nuthugger(which am not), yes his legacy is crap but H2H he is amongst the greats - no one could match his workrate only jones jr could match his speed (Jones jr was faster 1 2 punches)

Let me break it down for you real slow like.

Antonio Tarver was the rightful IBF Champion when he fought Jones Jr. He had vacated but was not beaten for the title, therefore was still linear (you have to beat the man)

Antonio Tarver lost but regained from Glen Johnson.

Tarver then lost to Roy Jones Jr who at that point, was lineal undisputed champion and remained so when he came back... only to lose to Antonio Tarver who was at that point lineal undisputed champion.

Bernard Hopkins beat Antonio Tarver for the lineal undisputed title.

Calzaghe beat Hopkins for the lineal undisputed title.

Vacancies mean **** all until the fighter is actually retired. The trinket is just a trinket.
