    BS excuse...

You don't let yourself get hit and then bow down your head with absolutely no defense if you're playing possum... Even Lebedev looked at the ref saying "WTF" before hitting RJJ with that last shot... In any case, a ref's 1st priority is the boxer's security, if RJJ was really playing possum and acting like he was getting knocked out and was out on his feet, the ref can definitely stop the fight...

I thought it was well obvious RJJ wasn't playing possum and was clearly hurt... Smogers was right next to the action and should have noticed it too...

Extremely tough to watch. Saw it once and that'll be the last time. He's destroying himself and unfortunately, I don't think that will be the last of RJJ's knockout losses.

Is Jones physically unfit to box? How do you make that determination? Just because he got KO'd in past fights?

Absolutely right there, the ref was very poor and should have intervened. Even if Roy was playing possum, he would have been given a standing count, awarding the other boxer a knock down.

But what a sad sight to see from RJJ, he really would have murdered this guy back in the days, and im not even talking prime RJJ. The KO has more to do with RJJ defensive sloppiness than anything......

The referee was not in position, not in good physical shape and in no place to stop that fight at the proper time.

    The sanctioninig is all wrong.

None of this can be fixed because there is no cenrtal boxing authority.

And so the sport will slowly die away.

that last punch could have killed Roy. What's the ref doing?

Smoger wanted to give Jones every chance to finish on his feet, but now that I've taken another look at it, Smoger should have took note of the brutal shots that Jones took before the final shot that left him unconscious.
Seeing that Jones was clearly losing the fight anyways (from what I hear) Smoger should have been alert to have stopped it and not let that final punch land.

I'm looking at it right now and actually it looked like when Lebedev hesitates and looks at the ref, Smoger is stepping in to stop it but Lebedev goes ahead and unloads a right hand before Smoger fully steps in.

Smoger hesitates to step in and when he's about to, it looks to me like Lebedev beats him to that decision and has unleached that right.

I agree with everything you said but the last sentence.

The sport will not die away because its always been that way and it seems to me like everyone involved in it including the media want it that way so they can write a story.

Controversy sells, and the media in good part thrives on it.

Who the **** is going to do anything about seeing that an old man like Smoger who's too old and does'nt have the reflexes to step in and stop a fight in a timely manner does'nt referee again?

Boxing for as long as I've been a fan (31 years) brings back the same inept refs and Judges to work their boxing matches, and the ****ing sport still thrives.

......I dont know what to call it, but its the reality.:?
