Haye relied on his explosive counters and athleticism, all traits Roy surpasses him in. Haye could land a bomb but prior to being knocked out twice within four or five months, which permanently damaged him, Roy was damn near untouchable. Roy UD.
Roy was undoubtedly the better fighter by far. But how this plays out at heavyweight is an entirely different matter and one I’m not sure of.
Sooner or later, Roy Jr puts his foot down in a fight with Haye. He would step right up and it would be a walk in the park. Haye would be the heel during the promotional buildup. He may be a sole man, but he wouldn’t be able to stand flat-footed and nail Jones. When Roy unleashed his flurries, David wouldn’t know what toe do.
I like the left hook of the Hayemaker to land sometime during the bout. Jones just holds those hands too low & this opponent has the handspeed to capitalize on it. Probably a dreary bout most of the time. Lots of posing and taunting and very few exchanges.
Jones was tagged by Ruiz on occasion who wasn’t particularly quick of hand or feet, and wasn’t particularly great at closing the ring off. Substitute that with a much faster, better boxer who was dynamic, could counter or lead and was much harder to predict, I see Haye catching him at some point, he was just better at heavyweight. Ruiz was a perfect style matchup for Jones to get his heavyweight title.
Thissss, come on! Ruiz was low output, low speed, average power and not particularly skilled beyond his hit n hold routine. Haye was bigger, faster, more skilled, much more powerful than Ruiz. If Jones thought he could take on big, hard hitting heavyweights with some speed to them he could have fought Corrie Sanders who his team had actually signed to fight iirc. He pulled the emergency brake on that one because he knew how it would turn out. Haye is a guy from a similar mould to Sanders, and while I think Sanders > Haye, I don't think it would matter much if it's RJJ on the other side of the ring.
It’s possible. Jones stated himself he didn’t want to hang around at heavy because of the level of power at that weight.
Haye by brutal KO early. Roy would underestimate just how fast and strong Haye would be in comparison to him assuming he would be far far superior. Get clipped, get slept.
Haye knocks that glass jaw the **** out. Jones' chin is one of the worst ever, he had a love affair with the canvas, no way could he take bombs from the Hayemaker.
