Jones needs legs to win against Calzaghe.

    And he's got none. I'm almost mad that we don't get to see the adjustments both men would make -- it is potentially such a great matchup, with Joe's intelligence and calculated risk-taking versus Jones cautious skipping and then popping in and out with potshots, counters and at times combinations.

    Can Calzaghe stay patient when Jones plays keepaway or will he lunge in and be caught? Will Calzaghe's excellent chin hold up against explosive shots that you don't always see coming?

    Can Jones get away with being cautious against a good champion who is willing to take so much risks in order to win? Will he be forced against the ropes at any point, and will be able to combat Calzaghe from there? Will he be able to shut down Calzaghe's southpaw jab? Will Calzaghe's southpaw stance and swarming style leave him ample oppertunities to counter, or will it prove a troublesome combination?

    I see a prime Jones winning, but it would be interesting throughout, because I give Calzaghe enough credit that he will change up whatever he is doing in order to find something that works -- and Calzaghe notices when something isn't going to cut it quickly. I wouldn't exclude Joe trying to bull him to the ropes at some point if need be.

    The reality is that Jones doesn't have his legs anymore. He has the handspeed, he has impressive reflexes for his age, but the walkers are gone. Without them, Jones will need to counter Calzaghe's jab and straight at an alarmingly high rate and with power to have any chance of shutting down the Whelsman's impressive workrate and intelligent pressure.

    I have a lot of respect for Jones' abilities even at this point, especially since I don't see Calzaghe knocking him out -- but the thing Jones needs most in this fight -- which would be his stylistic advantage -- which always made him unique -- is a no-show for the occasion.

    Calzaghe UD legless Jones, imo.

    Good post, same thing I and a lot of others have been commenting on.

    Had a dream last night that Jones went for the K.O and Roy caught him with a right cross. Joe was shaky when he got back up but alert as soon as the ref stopped it and started protesting.

    Roy Jones got me into boxing, but I'm a big Calzaghe fan as well. I don't mind either way who wins, my heart says both, my head says Calzaghe after Jones has a few decent rounds.

    Calzaghe; Late Stoppage if he throws proper punches and doesn't worry about his hands, PTS otherwise. I'm happy to be proven wrong.

    Yes, Jones' legs will be a central factor in his losing this fight I just don't know why so many others do not see this. Still, good post Shake.

    The people who do not see this are American posters who are whistling in the wind and confusing what they want to happen with what will happen.

    yea we may as well call Roy Jones liuetenant Dan......Because Calzaghe doesnt have the power to exploit Jones shakey chin, the Joe nuthuggers must come up with a different reason that Jones "clearly" loses....So now he has no legs.......you guys are ****ing priceless

    Actually, refrain from posting in my topics altogether. You seem like a contrary sort and your ranting lines of thought are too jumbled to be interesting.

    dude its a fact, Roy Jones is beyond shot and I really cant justify why on earth did Calzaghe pick roy jones over Hopkins rematch or Pavlik before Hopkins destroyed him

    I agree Roy's legs will be the key fact in this fight. After the Johnson KO I simply thought it was a stamina issue but during the Tito fight I noticed how heavy his legs seemed to be. While Jones still has quick hands he seems to have lost the quickness in his feet. He wasn't even able to avoid Tito's attacks and was forced to stand his ground.

    Unless Roy trained like he use to (sprinting + lifting weights with his neck) then I see it hard for him to win.

    Good post...I think the same Roys legs are long gone he cannot afford to rest on the ropes against Joe because he plays right into Joes hands and will get mauled.I think Joe will either get a 2nd half TKO or a UD

    I didnt like the way he looked in that fight wither he seemed unable to move,and Tito was actually winning the fight till the 7th when the extra weight on his naturally welter frame caught up to him.:rasta
