There is no way, regardless of the skill gap that Roy Jones jr should have been able to beat John Ruiz let alone produce the boxing masterclass that he did in 2003.

I knew RJJ was great but I fully expected him to get KOd when he fought Ruiz but instead he showed the he was certainly the best fighter of his generation without question.

We all know his career went downhill after this fight but he was 34 & in reality never came close to losing.

Jones-Ruiz was a true masterclass & rightly should go down as 1 of most significant fights of all time.

    :thumbsup

Any person who truly respects fighting and watched RJJ in his prime knows without a shadow of a doubt the man was a absolute legend of the ring.

IMO, Roy is a top 20 of all-time fighter not quite a top 10, but I agree with your sentiments here. The win over Ruiz is unfairly maligned because people don't rate Ruiz. Well, Evander Holyfield didn't find him easy meat in the 2 years leading up to Ruiz-Jones, as Evander and Ruiz shared a win each and a draw in 3 fights. Nor did Hasim Rahman or Andrew Golota find him as easy right after the Jones fight, as Ruiz beat them both.

Roy's performance, giving away a minimum of 33lbs, was a masterclass. He is an All-Time Great in every sense of the word.

    Top 10 ATG!?!?!?!?

    Roy Jones?!?!?!

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

    Share the ****ing drugs!

Jones is the perfect example of what's WRONG with boxing! He never dared to be great, always minimizing risk for maximum gain. He was a businessman who never dared to be great, and in doing such, he screwed over himself, the fans, and the entire sport!

Roy Jones Junior is a sack of ****!

Calzaghe is gonna ***** slap (quite literally) all over the ****ing ring!

who was a legitimate top 10 heavy at that time.

he wasn't pretty to watch but he was effective and you're being way too dismissive if you don't understand the challenges of fighting at a weight you're not use to and fighting an accomplished fighter 30 pounds heavier than you.

that's why this has rarely been done.

Jones never dared to be great, now thats funny.

McCallum,Hill,Toney,Hopkins,Griffin twice countless top 10 fighters, moving up to Heavyweight to get apiece of the title. Come on if you dont like him you dont have to, but you gotta give him his due.

yes it was a great achievement. and yes it was still john ruiz. like i say i hope people arent saying its his best win 30 lbs or not because if it is a top 10 of all time rating is a joke.

ruiz wasn't his best win but at the same time jones was a supreme talent who ruled a weak divison. that works against him.

i don't think it's unreasonable to have jones in anyone's top 20 at least since he destroyed any fighter who dared challenge him legitimiately at that time.

jones was an exceptional fighter - and when you train to box and people give you advice about how to counter someone else's boxing style, it's guys like jones who make this advice void.

Jones would have fought Lewis if he has balls and wanted to be great. He didn't, then ran from the heavyweight division with his tail between his legs.

Is that true Ruiz was not allowed (by Nady) to step closer than 3 feet away from Jones?
