Roy is about....19th on my top of all time list.

If he'd retired after Ruiz he'd be top 10. I think we'd look upon him much more favourably if he....oh no we wouldn't, we'd accuse him of 'ducking' Vitali and Lennox!

On sheer ability & how dominant he was in his prime then you would be hard pressed to find 10 better boxers.

I never used to put him in my top 10 but after digging out some old fights, most notably the Toney, Pazienza & Ruiz fights & rewatching them, the guy was just a phenom.

The fact that he didnt even get run close until he was 34/35 seals his place for me.

Ask yourself which boxer you would favour to beat him without a big size advantage in his prime, not many if any.

That's a rather pejorative phrasing of Jones' victory over Ruiz. The significance of the victory was that Ruiz held the WBA championship which is the oldest of the sanctioning bodies. Ruiz won that belt by coming through his three fight series with Evander Holyfield - directly after Holyfield had lost to Lennox Lewis. So, yeah - it was a good victory - even if Ruiz is not the most asthetically pleasing of fighters to watch.

I;m not so quick to label Roy Jones jr as a top 10 ATG just yet - but he is definintely one of the greats. His ranking is yet to be determined and may improve significantly after he beats Calzaghe.
