i think he figured him out just fine but didnt have the abilities to do it the way he had planned...you saw his effectiveness in the first two rounds...and just when he was going to switch game plans as JC did his ****in eye was cut open and no one did anything to help the situation...

seeing that thread with the damn picture of his eye doesnt prove ****...the same thing was bleeding because no one did **** about it...not an ounce of ****in vasoline was put into the damn cut...what the **** were they thinking over there??!! yea some pressure with a damn q-tip is going to get the job done  :patsch

im not saying that if his cut had been attended to properly wouldve seriously changed the game completely and RJ wouldve came back...but i think his performance wouldve been a bit less humiliating...

and prime RJJ wouldve thrown FAR MORE PUNCHES!! cmon man...dont gimme this bull**** that JCC wouldve gave him hell...a ****in prime Hopkins couldnt neautralize his abilities let alone a ****in JC...

RJJ was much faster and stronger than JC...but the fact remains that much of his greatness and capabilities DID rely solely on his reflexes and footwork...and now that those are gone...so is he...he's done...and i seriously hope he just hang's up the gloves...hes proved enough already

They put no vaseline on the cut because they were hoping the doctor would stop the fight.

Except for the fact that Calzaghe has successfully modified his style around it, and is much closer to his peak ability than Jones. Calzaghe never had huge power and its very likely that if he still had moderate power he wouldn't be as good at being the volume punching points scoring machine that he is today. He would have been more complacent and would not have been capable of keeping the same workrate with much more exertion in his shots. It is by no means a disadvantage comparable to Jones inability to throw more than 15 punches in a round, or his inability to fight for more than 30 seconds without taking a break on the ropes and going into a survival shell. Any comparison between the two in that aspect is simply ridiculous, narrowminded and ignorant.

Its also stupid and ignorant comparing Hopkins and Jones in relation to how shot they are, as Hopkins style has survived time much more effectively than Jones. Hopkins is very meaninfull win for Calzaghe, Jones is not. Hopkins is still an A level fighter, Jones is not, and hasn't been for 5 years. Hopkins destroyed Tarver not all that long ago, in this time Jones was having competitive fights with C level opposition.

Exactly, Americans dont realise Calzaghe is Welsh and had to fight many English guys in England before he got a fan base and was liked across Britain. Woodhall, Eubank, Reid, all Englishmen in England, I bet not one american boxer has been in an atmosphere like that on that many occasions. Of course americans just see it as Briton in Britain, they have no clue of the real rivalry between the fans.

    Really? How so??? :huh

    McIntyre - Denmark
    Veit - Germany

And if you want to talk about hostile crowds, a Welshman fighting in England is just as bad - just look at his fight with Reid. Not as many of his big fights actually took place in Wales as people think, and now he has fought twice in America. Ottke was the homebird out of the two - not Joe. :deal

The Thing that also never gets mentioned is Calzaghe is well past his best as well, its no coincedence he's been knocked down in his last 2 fights, its because he's past his prime.
Calzaghe was at his peak when he fought sheika, even when he fought lacy(which is obvoiusly his most noted performence)he was on the decline,no-one ever seems to metion that, but then again you biased yanks wouldnt would you.

He is, but pound for pound, he ranks behind Jones, Hopkins and Toney.
Let's not forget that he arguably beat a 43 old Hopkins and a 40 year old Jones. Those were very good wins but let's not overrate them.

    My ranking is now:

    1. Hopkins
    2. Jones
    3. toney
    4. Calzaghe.

Head to head in their prime, it is :

    1. Jones
    2. Toney
    3. Hopkins
    4. Calzaghe.

  10. This is one of the best posts I have ever seen on a boxum forum and shows the level of understanding MJ has. This statement really belongs on the frontpage.

Look at Jones' body today and back in the day. He´s pretty muscular now, but he was a freak in his prime. Never have I seen a guy his weight pack so much muscle, never have I seen someone with insane obliques like him. He must have laid back on the steroid use in his later years...

The fight at their perspective primes would have been at 168 ..And Jones was twice as fast at super middle than he was at lt heavy ..It would not be utter nonsense to speculate a dominant win .Your basing on how Joe would of had performed aginst a 29 yr old Jones as opposed to a 39 yr old that my firend is utter nonsense.
