Schooled loooooooooooool, Calzaghe schooled Jones. That's a fact, check the scorecards. He didn't outwork him, he outclassed him.

As if both fighters didn't know he was going to throw close to 1000 punches. HE ALWAYS DOES. They knew it would happen but couldn't handle it. Simple as.

You give Calzaghe very little credit here, really he tends to adapt better, fight more intelligently and more aggressively than his opponent. High punch volume is just one facet of those traits.

I haven't seen a boxer in the last twenty years who adapted during the course of a fight better than Calzaghe. JMM is in the running for 2nd place, as is Hopkins, but Calzaghe just had some extra boxing sense, knew how to adjust just when he needed to. That's what won his biggest fights.

Calzaghe was special he had mental toughtness, speed, skill, tenacity, conditioning,an overwhelming desire to win,and an ability to think and adapt during a fight......

  5. all you guys harping on about jones taking joe out early - joe got straight up from that kd, maybe he was shaken/it hurt - but in no way was he trying to survive etc. he had his entire wits about him, and if you notice - he wanted to go to war - last man standing, and jones didn't.

Once that first round finished - jones couldn't hurt joe again, a joe who had stopped arsing about and was focused - like he was when he got up from the kd, good luck for this version of jones to have a chance. Had jones tried to finish joe then i think it's more likely he'd have been stopped.

    Calzaghe is a one off,

Had he fought Benn and collins and more recently Froch aswell i beleive he would be 49-0

Clearly i missed the hype for this kid, but based on what? The Reid fight? It cant have just been HBO's backing that everyone is basing this off of.

Yes...Are you disputing this? Was he not a one dimensional plodder before the Calzaghe fight?

Yeah, he held the IBF SMW title, and beat several world-rated boxers in defending it before losing it to Calzaghe.

What's your definition of 'world beater'?

Beating someone of worth. He didn't and has yet to do so.

Oh, okay, so why didn't Hopkins open up on Joe then?

Lacy pre-Calzaghe was supposed to be the 'new Tyson'. He was knocking out every opponent he faced. He appeared indomitable and got tons of media coverage, at least in the US.

You must be new to boxing. Lacy's hype was massive. He was tipped by many to come over here and knock Calzaghe's head off

Collins retired rather than face Calzaghe (his mandatory at the time)

Froch would have been humiliated if Joe had cared about shutting his big mouth

Who out there is a world beater in your eyes, and who did they beat to gain this status?

    Funny you say that.

And I meant hype here, as in this site. And HBO's backing of him was no different than any other fighter they hype.
