TBH I never saw Lacy fight before he fought Calzaghe I just remember the Media saying Lacy was going to destroy him and that he was something special ? The Lacy fight got him really noticed in the US it is just a pity it did not happen sooner as Calzaghe's resume is always going to be questioned as the BIG fights did not happen earlier in his career ?

Mine is no different than any competent fan. Look at the average p4p top 10 list and there you have it. World beaters.

So in your opinion, only top 10 p4p are world beaters?

The whole world beaters expression is rather over the top

I think you FAIL here Lacy was mega hyped prior to having his arse handed to him, he was "the next best thing" a "mini mike tyson" who was going to "knock JC clean out" he was an undefeated world champ who just happend to loose to a MUCH better undefeated world champ

Did you watch any of those fights prior to Calzaghe? The Sheika one in particular? His flaws were glaringly obvious.

    Sure.

    seconded it could mean anything,

    elite class
    world class
    beating former world champs
    current alphabet champs

the list goes on, i feel the need to specify

I think "dominant fighter" would be more appropriate?

    :yep definatly,

there are so many "levels" of fighters the average boxing fan can see, so there needs to be specified types of "world beaters"

    prospect
    contender
    alphabet champ
    unified champ
    undisputed champ
    elite

i suppose a dominant fighter could be placed in any catagory :D

the revisionist bull**** on this site is sickening. i can only take this place in small doses.

Hopkins didn't take joe lightly at all. he didn't get to where he is today by taking opponents lightly. and if there's one lesson he would have learned by his age, it would be to never take an opponent lightly. his preparation was at the very least as painstaking and thorough as it usually is, and he went to a lot of effort and spent a lot of money assembling his ''dream team'' of freddie roach, nazim richardson, john david jackson and mackie shilstone to help him beat calzaghe. infact he was so meticulous in his preparation [as he is famous for being] he even read joe's autobiography in the hope of finding some psychological weakness in his armour. whereas, calzaghe prepaired for the fight the same amateurish way he always does - just him and his pop [who has absolutely no boxing experience at all] in a shitty little rundown gym in newbridge. there was no ''dream team'' or dieticians, nutritionists, weights coaches or specialist sparring partners flown in to try and emulate hopkins' extremley awkward style - most of his sparring was against against enzo mac [who's style is hardly an exact facsimile of hopkins', nor even remotely close to], nathan cleverly and maybe a few rounds against bradley price and gavin rees for good measure.

and don't talk crap, hopkins and jones knew exactly what to expect from calzaghe. he throws billions of punches every time he fights.

but don't take my word for it.

When did i say "i wonder"? I said the obvious, "clearly", as in clearly i was not here during the hype for him. You're comment is pointless.
